I was in Copenhagen and attended the live final of the Eurovision Song Contest. The vibe, atmosphere and general buzz in the arena was out of this world. I've never been before, and wouldn't even call myself a massive fan but i'm hooked!

Personally, I think the whole semi-finals/producer final running order is completely flawed. In my opinion I feel because the "top 5" are not part of any semi-final selection show they completely fall off the radar. The Monday before the final on the Saturday Austria were 25/1 (my friend actually put a bet on) and as soon as Conchita performed in the semi's she shot straight up. Now, I personally think Spain's entry was absolutely fantastic, but it wasn't reflected in the votes. The amount of press, interviews some performers get during the semi-finals put them in much bigger odds to win. I think the top 5 should still have the opportunity to perform during the semi's, instead of showing a 10 second teaser.

You have to remember that the majority of people watching will have only seen one or neither of the semis so most of the songs will likely be new to them on the night of the final anyway.

Yes - I've always assumed the ratings for the semifinals are small compared to the final in many countries.

The EBU has announced that the provisional dates have slipped by a week, the contest now moves from

12/14/16 May to 19/21/23 May 2015

The venue will be announced within the next three weeks.

Was any reason given? As mentioned near the start of the thread, the dates don't usually change, so I wonder what sort of clash needed to be resolved.

Potential Host City requests and International 'Events' are quoted, I suspect that the Ascension Day public holiday in key European States on 14th May is also a contributory factor.

A new generic logo was revealed today. I don't like it, the old one seemed fine, but this just seems out of balance everytime I look at it.
Edit: Forgot the press release. And contest logo.

I like it. Seems much neater than the previous one and I'm glad they got rid of the terribly dated font where it says 'Song Contest'.

Looks like Wikipedia deleted it. Replaced it in my quote with Logopedia's copy.

It's hardly any different. Don't see the point in making a big song and dance about it in the press release.

It was changed to mark the 60th anniversary. I would have preferred to see a change at the beginning of the decade.

There was nothing wrong with the Eurovision wordmark as it was, but the Song Contest text should've never been in that old font - it was about 30 years out of date.

Where have you read that? It was clearly changed because someone felt it needed modernising it just happens to be the anniversary as well. A logo change can't really mark an anniversary unless it's throwback to a classic design or they add words such as "60th Anniversary" to it.

As the Eurovision Song Contest is heading for its 60th anniversary in 2015, the EBU is presenting a revamped version of the logo.

Of course that doesn't mean what I assume you've taken it to mean.

The article explains what was wrong with it, such as...

Also, the logo had some challenges; it's grungy edges, odd details and loss of detail when shown in small dimensions, particularly the city and year designation.

Personally I think the new one just looks a lot tidier and more modern.

Presumably the want the press to be aware of the logo change so they use the correct one.

Isn't that Eurovision's whole raison d'etre? Big songs and dances?
