But seriously... the last time a UK act reached Number 1 in the UK charts was Gina G in 1996. Katrina was Number 3 in the charts when she won the year after.
Therefore it kind of shows how off the mark we've been with our acts.
Ideally we don't stand a chance of winning unless it looks likely chart well in the Music charts.
What the UK needs as an entrant is someone that is still a legit act but one that hasn't had as much exposure in recent years. Someone like Leona Lewis.
Keep saying it, a clone Vamps would be perfect, modern and a widely appreciated genre, would activate the teen market too. Get their management crew to do the selection as well. The UK must NOT go back at all and needs to avoid past talent show contestants too. A viewer selection doesn't have to be a bad idea incidentally, if all the candidates are of quality and no novelty acts are offered. MF with it's multi programme selection can afford a few novelties, a single show can't.
When watching the recent BBC Four documentary I'm sure that it said that Sandy Shaw had a TV special where she sung a few songs with the best one being Puppet on a string and that was entered.
Could they go back to this by choosing an act and then having a special where the audience vote on which song they would like the act to perform?
Look at The Hit it's an RTE format that ran last year or the year before it would be a great way to choose the song we enter.
I think the issue is that there is zero interest from any of the BBC controllers or commissioners in commissioning a show like this for Eurovision. They have The Voice and Strictly, they don't want another viewer-choice show at the moment.
