No but I promise you there will be at least two drag acts in the semis. Anyone remember the bird who didn't get into Girls Aloud jumping on the Ethnopop bandwagon during the period the ex-Soviet bloc were cleaning up?
I think there are a lot of ignorant people around.
Why?
Please respond.
Becuase you and a few others seem to be dismissing the winner as a novelty act, which I think would probably be offensive to the trans community and Conchita Wurst wouldn't have won if the song and performance wasn't of a good standard.
I was in Copenhagen and attended the live final of the Eurovision Song Contest. The vibe, atmosphere and general buzz in the arena was out of this world. I've never been before, and wouldn't even call myself a massive fan but i'm hooked!
Personally, I think the whole semi-finals/producer final running order is completely flawed. In my opinion I feel because the "top 5" are not part of any semi-final selection show they completely fall off the radar. The Monday before the final on the Saturday Austria were 25/1 (my friend actually put a bet on) and as soon as Conchita performed in the semi's she shot straight up. Now, I personally think Spain's entry was absolutely fantastic, but it wasn't reflected in the votes. The amount of press, interviews some performers get during the semi-finals put them in much bigger odds to win. I think the top 5 should still have the opportunity to perform during the semi's, instead of showing a 10 second teaser.

Lots of people were saying this a few years back, and then Germany went and won.

She is a woman with a beard, Jon. She is clearly a novelty act. Nothing to do with the trans community, whatever that is.
But it's not fair to suggest she just won due to the beard and just sticking anyone in drag will win Eurovision for us. I would say the unique appearance perhaps made her stand out but if the performance and song wern't strong she wouldn't have won.

Precisely. And Italy have done very well for a number of years (not this year) with no semifinal exposure.

You have to remember that the majority of people watching will have only seen one or neither of the semis so most of the songs will likely be new to them on the night of the final anyway.
