So record breaking ratings for the show last night - just 1.8m watching making it the lowest ever Good Friday audience for BBC1. I think even Don't Scare the Hare debuted with higher ratings than that.

That is disappointing.

I did think it had a hint of X Factor to it. No bad thing, as I said earlier I think the influence X Factor has had on Eurovision as a production has really slickened the show up, particularly since the venues downsized.

Or maybe people don't watch much telly in good Friday. Hecks it's on the busiest shopping days. Many a time I was out on good Friday and Easter sunday, and so we're many others.

There was plenty of people watching tv last night, they just weren't bothered with an Eurovision show which only appealed to the die hard fans.

Gogglebox had nearly double the viewing figures of it incl +1 in the same slot

That is a low rating, I'm sure they'd have wanted more. Good though the show was, there were IMO some intriguing omissions. No mentions for instance of either Alexander Rybak's Fairytale or Katrina and the Waves' Love Shine a Light. Wonder why? Both were runaway winners. Not even a little clip. Maybe rights reasons ... (Some eurovision stuff can be very hard to clear). I felt a lot of the clips between performances were very UK oriented. I wonder if versions shown elsewhere will have more locally targeted clips (ie more Swedish entries when it's shown on SVT...)

SVT showing is tonight, and will be on SVTPlay live. If you want to check it out. Must admit that the UK ratings were very poor. Maybe some more publicity would have helped. Good Friday was a strange choice of day to show it on though, I wonder whether the BBC wanted to get in first with the transmission.

I found the show a bit too hardcore. Many of the songs I didn't know and they only focussed on the songs they had performers for rather than the contest as a whole.
As a Eurovision fan, Even I changed channels half way through. A UK only UK focussed show would have fared much better I feel.

The poor ratings were probably down to the title as much as anything else - 'Eurovision's Greatest Hits' sounds like a cheap clip show, not a ticketed anniversary concert in London and shown across the continent. Probably an instant turn-off for many looking for something decent to watch in primetime.

I don't think that was the problem. I think it should have benefited from a Saturday night slot (when there is no talent shows on like the Voice) and have more promotion.

Love some of the attitudes here, they are reflective of the general UK attitude towards Eurovision and Europe in general! Why bother with a pan-European programme, let's do a UK only version for the little Englanders out there! With the exception of three members of Bucks Fizz none of the other UK winners want to have their name associated with Eurovision any more, therefore none would take part in this type of programme. The only person who i think would have wanted to take part is Cliff and obviously there is a cloud hanging over him at the minute.

The line-up as it was managed to tick all the right boxes in that each of the major Eurovision markets, with the exception of Italy, were included. You also have to work with what you've got and the likes of Herreys and Bobbysocks do the circuit and are highly popular with the fans. Thankfully the line-up was not created with a UK TV audience in mind. Anyone expecting to see ABBA or Celine Dion on stage are living in a dreamworld. I would rather that we had a great 90 minute programme such as we did rather than another boring 2 hour talking heads show with archive footage.

It is to the BBC's credit that they made the show. After all in 2005 nearly all the EBU members took the 50th anniversary show and the BBC refused to show it. UK Eurovision fans were left feeling very short changed. This show has probably did a lot to restore the Corporation's reputation with the EBU. What the show proved, as has recent contests, is that the Scandinavian countries equally take the piss out of the contest as the BBC do. The BBC's attitude actually isn't that different from successful countries.

Really? I don't think not taking an anniversary show would give the BBC bad blood with the EBU.

If it wasn't for the BBC, EBU who be short of cash and resources, hence the reason we get into the final every year no questions asked.

I have to agree fully with Tightrope.

Still, the BBC could have done this show differently.
