I doubt it will be used for the entries since most of them are without orchestra anyway. BUT! I do think it should be used for the interval (if they mark the anniversary).

The issue with a live orchestra would be if they don't perform to a totally nailed down click track with a definite start, which they hit bang on, all the timecode driven lighting and staging effects, and LED walls, projectors etc., would potentially be out of sync.

There's a significant number of touring bands today that perform live with timecode driven lights / video, and it works perfectly almost every time (all the noticeable mistakes I've seen have been during soundcheck, often caused by a hungover drummer). And these days I'd expect a full multitrack of the orchestra getting it right to be available to the sound op, so if they did manage to stuff it up, you could fade over to the pre-record and everything would be synced up again (apart from pictures of orchestra members playing).

Yep - would expect it to work well with a rock band - and I guess if it is all to track effectively it would be fine. You wouldn't have the traditional flexibility of the conductor setting the tempo, but they could still conduct to click track I guess.

Absolutely agree you'd expect a backup multitrack to be available as a backup, along with any content that couldn't be delivered live.

Unless you could find a way for them to alter the tempo of the click track. Nero use a solution in their live shows which regenerates the timecode for lights / video / some audio cues, on the fly based on the data from their stem playout - so they can speed up / slow down / loop as they wish for the performance, and the rest of the show just carries on around them.

The detailed Melfest results have been released by SVT. Astonishing Zelmerlow attracted almost twice as many votes as the second placed entry in the public televote.

Just back from the taping of Eurovision's Greatest Hits at the Hammersmith Apollo. It was a great show. The acts all sounded fantastic. Music was provided by Dave Arch and his band. Graham and Petra were excellent hosts.

Interestingly the warm-up act was Electro Velvet. They sounded good live however there were too many dancers and they still made a lot of use of the onstage band which obviously won't work in Vienna. The performance was filmed for potential future use on the red button.

There is a annual poll on ESC Nation, which fans sign up and vote: http://tummiweb.com/scorewiz/poll/results
Interestingly, the UK are 5th in both sections they are eligible for.

It says that they picked "Children of the Universe" as the winner last time round, so I wouldn't put too much stock in that poll myself (at least not for the position of the UK).

At the recording of the Greatest Hits show, Graham said "on a night of ballads, that could do very well". Not sure I quite agree, but here's hoping! The Greatest Hits show is well worth a watch by the way, great archive, live performances and a return of Live music accompaniment in the form of "Dave Arch and his wonderful wonderful orchestra" in Brucie's words... UK and Ireland are showing it tomorrow, it's being taken by 24 other broadcasters (I think) over the weekend.

Thoroughly enjoying this Greatest Hits show. Graham and Petra seem to be getting along very well!

I think there could be something going on with those too. Wink
