The issue with a live orchestra would be if they don't perform to a totally nailed down click track with a definite start, which they hit bang on, all the timecode driven lighting and staging effects, and LED walls, projectors etc., would potentially be out of sync.
There's a significant number of touring bands today that perform live with timecode driven lights / video, and it works perfectly almost every time (all the noticeable mistakes I've seen have been during soundcheck, often caused by a hungover drummer). And these days I'd expect a full multitrack of the orchestra getting it right to be available to the sound op, so if they did manage to stuff it up, you could fade over to the pre-record and everything would be synced up again (apart from pictures of orchestra members playing).
I doubt it will be used for the entries since most of them are without orchestra anyway. BUT! I do think it should be used for the interval (if they mark the anniversary).
