The logical thing is to host it in a city in the country which came second.

If logic came into this we wouldn't be welcoming Australia into the Eurovision Song Contest.

It seems that Australia competing is a one-off. However, if they win SBS is to co-host with another EBU member broadcaster. Again, if they win they will be allowed to send a second entry. The direct entry to the Grand final is so it doesn't diminish any existing country's chances.

What would happen should Australia win the final?

What if Australia wins? Would the contest take place down under?

No. In case Australia wins, SBS will co-host the Eurovision Song Contest in a European city, together with an EBU Member Broadcaster. Their participation is intended as a one-off, but in case of a victory, Australia will be allowed send a participant to the Eurovision Song Contest next year.

So they can stay in it as long as they keep winning, basically. But they can't ever host it.

That should be fair, because they cannot host it due to time zone.

It's because of this, that their votes will be jury-only.

It actually says that Digame is exploring the options for Australians to vote in the semi's and the final.

I wonder why it's so difficult to round up a jury and organise a phone vote?

The time zone difference is the main problem, but i think we'll get Eurovision live in the early morning, with the addition prime-time delay, allowing for phone voting.

No word on contenders, but Kylie Minogue, 5SOS, AC/DC are already been batted about.

Those crazy Austrians.

Although I was reading a report from DR (Denmark) earlier, which suggests they (as 2014 host broadcaster) actually wanted to "surprise" Australia last year by declaring them on stage to be formal participants - not just a half-time act. However, the EBU didn't go for the idea.

Last year would have been just ridiculous, this year, the reasons are sensible.

And Rolf Harris presumably.

Alan Fletcher maybe?

If Australia win, they should host it in Austria.
