According to the PR, the Running length of the SFs will remain the same, the additional 5 minutes spread amongst the entrants to 'get to know them better'. Andra Chanson will obviously be shorter with the reduced format. The final on the other hand should be around 10 mins longer, not too much.

Yep - 10'00" of additional songs, postcards, recaps etc. - but I guess they can absorb a little bit more with tweaks elsewhere.

Quote:

One aspect of the changes, they should be making the final closer, statistically the additional two entrants will pick up votes from the Televote, so should reduce the proportionalities used for all entries. Even if the 11th and 12th entries only gain 5pct between them, that's 5pct less for the other 10 when the final votes are revealed.

Yes - though in most years there have been a couple of standouts which have dominated - so it could be that the 11th and 12th entries (which are effectively two additional less popular songs from AC (*) ) just add a bit to the noise at the lower end.

(*) Yes - I know Robin Stjernberg was an AC qualifier who won the overall competition - but that is relatively unusual.

Want to submit a UK contender .....
Please don't.

I know just the guy.

We just need someone to write a song for him. I propose a new reality format for budding song writers 'A Song for Tumble'.

So no public vote then...

Good!

It's good that everyone is free to submit a entry. I would go for a national final though, because it would boost the song's support. That's the main thing.

Just gained a good idea of the scale of the Venue, The ErsteBank Open Tennis has been played in the Wiener Stadthalle this last week. Seems very suitable for the ESC only issue would seem to be height suspect some effects will overcome this.

How high is it? And why would it be an issue?

Can see it being a problem with some aerial and full stage shots. There's also a prominent aircon ventilation system which protrudes from the 'ceiling'. Any overhead tracking cameras will need to be carefully positioned to avoid. Compared to recent venues in Baku, Malmo and Copenhagen the building will appear smaller even if physically it isn't. Can see ORF getting around it, but the stage and production designers will be having a few sleepless nights to overcome it's shortcomings.

If it's high enough for tennis I'm sure it's high enough for Eurovision.

The height of the ceiling at Millstreet was a big problem for the designers in 1993. They overcame this by digging down 3 feet into the floor so the stage wasn't raised up even more than normal (the stage was under-lit with banks of red/green/blue gelled tubes which required huge amounts of air conditioning to keep cool) and they added a suspended piece of set above the stage so that cameras shooting wide wouldn't get vast amounts of ceiling (or black void) in shot.
An interesting website from the designer exists at http://indigo.ie/~alanf/evs'93.html

39 entrants have been confirmed tonight by Jon Ola Sand on Twitter, I assume the finalised list will be announced tomorrow or on Monday.
