Scissor Sisters were on Five Live this morning and said, if they're asked, they'd gladly represent the UK next year. If the BBC don't hold them to that they're mad. I doubt they'd find a more current Eurovsion friendly, yet still credible, act that have had success this side of the 21st Century. It's a perfect match.

But they're american?!

As was our last winner.

Next he'll be asking why Israel are in the competition.

Actually it's probably the other way round now considering The Voice is now rating lower than what Fame Academy and So you think you can Dance did in their first seasons.

Neither of which were in May and broadcast on the hottest day of the year.

And neither of which had 11m viewers just weeks earlier.

Couldn't see much wrong with Norton's commentary myself- could have done without the mentions of all the people watching who were having parties etc, but it wasn't that bad. I was more concerned that his commentary ISDN was far enough ahead of the contest feed that he 'spoiled' a bit of the voting before the results had appeared. That and the fact that the ISDN glitched a few times - but that was more me having been on both the studio and OB ends of glitching ISDNs and being worried they're about to drop Very Happy

Yep - the lack of delay and the glitching both grated a bit. But a lot better than Dusseldorf's first semifinal when the commentary system fell over taking most commentary feeds with it. (Last year Scott was in London not Dusseldorf - so we were one of the few countries who were relatively unscathed by it. Sara moved to the in-vision position I think to re-join - out-of-vision)

I assume the reason Ireland revealed their votes last instead of about 2/3rd the way through (from the voting order list in this thread) was down to the issues with their feed to Baku?

Yep. It's always the intention that anyone with technical problems gets moved to the end of the list, to give them time to fix them!

Well, the eleven million wasn't a freak rating - ratings were consistently high throughout the auditions and the battle rounds, so it wasn't as if everyone switched off after show one. The live shows have obvious issues but the format clearly isn't completely beyond repair because the auditions and battles were hugely successful.

And the fact eleven million people even bothered to watch it is worth celebrating as most light entertainment has such a bad reputation getting half of that for show one would be amazing.

Strictly speaking, "Katrina & The Waves" could be considered a British act, even though the lead singer originated from the US.

Good point, but it's all irrelevant anyway...there's no restrictions on where the acts come from. Several British acts have represented other nations (Romania and Cyprus quite recently).

The song has to be written in the representative country and written by people/group/etc from the representative country - but can be sung by anyone.

IIRC didn't Greece have a British female singer a few years ago?

According to the wiki, last year's winning song was written by a pair of sweedes and a brit.

On another note, IIRC weren't quite a few of last years song's (including the winner) produced in the UK too?
