My favourite part of tonights show has to be Lynda Woodruff's appearance announcing the Swedish votes (plus it's good that they won too - should be a gooden' next year!)

For anyone who hasn't seen Lynda Woodruff's original appearance in Melodifestivalen, here it is:

Get Ken Bruce in from R2, and let him present in his Friday Night is Music Night style, Light yet authoratative, give the radio job to Jo Whiley or Claudia Winkleman.

To associate the contest with Radio One is a major mistake. It's Radio Two through and through.

Was Graham Norton not in on the joke?

I didn't watch any of tonight's Eurovision, partly because I'm so sick of singing/dancing/talent shows all year round that Eurovision's not that appealing anymore. Anyway, if we always do so badly why not just pull out altogether? I'm sure I read somewhere that we're a major financial backer of the whole thing (surprise, surprise - another case of Europe having to come cap in hand to us for money) so I don't see why we should continue in this vein if we get no return on our investment. Europe don't want us... so let's leave them to it.

But it's incredibly cheap 3 nights of entertainment for the BBC and it rates well.

That in itself confuses me, Jon. Why are British people always so keen to watch Eurovision? Like I say, we never have any hope of winning and I usually find it totally cringeworthy. I used to watch it fairly regularly during the Wogan era as his commentary kept it interesting. I did enjoy Graham Norton last year but these days it just feels like any other boring singing/dancing/talent/voting show. There's one such programme on the BBC or ITV every Saturday night of the year - do we really need Eurovision on top of that any more? It used to be something of a spectacle but for me it seems to have lost its appeal. Part of me wonders whether most people watch it 'because it's on' rather than actively choosing it as a quality show. I think we'd be better off saving our money.

Well I guess there are those who watch because they always have, those who enjoy commentary on those 'funny foreign folk' and those who enjoy the campness of it all. And then you'd have gained anyone genuinely interested in The Hump and Jedward.

Association of The Voice with Eurovision is a non-starter, it's Universal's baby and there is no way they'd have their winner associated with the contest. It would probably lose it's 'superstar coaches' as well.

Actually I think the best way for us to have a chance now is for someone other than the BBC to take charge of the selection process as I think they'd make a real effort of it (in the first year at least), so I guess the only way for that to happen would be for the BBC to drop out and inevitably one of the other PSBs pick it up as a result.

What's with the "we"? I assume you have no link to Eurovision or the UK entry?

As a viewer with no link to the UK entry and no vested interest in what position it comes in, I would prefer to have an advert free programme rather than an ITV1 X-Factor style selection programme that results in a UK entry that is more likely to win.

It's the same with voting, I just don't understand it. Why do people care which song wins? Why can't they just watch the programme and enjoy it? The true winners are the phone companies. You'd be better off entering The Gadget Show competition or something, at least there is a small chance of a return on investment there.

If any TV Forum member votes in Eurovision, X-Factor or anything similar I would genuinely like to know why.

I did vote once so I could feel as though I was on the phone to Terry Wogan.

Erm - 'we' as in we the British people/the UK/our entry in the competition. Seems fairly obvious to me Confused

Haha! A bit of Googling has let me in on the secret that Lynda Woodruff is a comedy character of singer Sarah Dawn Finer. Well done to her, that was a funny bit!

Other countries e.g. Spain, Serbia, Ireland, Iceland were far more deserving of higher places than Russia's garbage.

Did you vote?

Yes, I voted for Iceland.
