Actually I think the best way for us to have a chance now is for someone other than the BBC to take charge of the selection process as I think they'd make a real effort of it (in the first year at least), so I guess the only way for that to happen would be for the BBC to drop out and inevitably one of the other PSBs pick it up as a result.
I'd rather have no adverts in the broadcast of the final than win.
Well there are limits on the adverts that any broadcaster could show (were probably just about 4 or 5 one-minute opt outs tonight), and that is why I think any commercial broadcaster taking it on would need to make a big thing of the selection to make some money out of it, although the limited broadcast slots would mean they could charge a higher rate than usual in the final itself.
Ultimately whether it's the BBC or not it comes down to song selection. It's not even about Britain sending a big star over - we just need to send someone with a song which is a decent reflection of British music today and we'd do OK. Engleburt Humperdink is not a reflection of the UK music scene of the 21st century - or indeed the last quarter of the 20th century.

Remember it is not as simple as ITV taking over from the BBC. Radio 2 also do a commentary and make a big deal of eurovision. The BBC rights go beyond the basic TV show and ITV alone could not do everything.
You feel those limits might change if ITV came waving a big wad of cash?
I think the past has shown the British public aren't necessarily a better judge than the BBC.
Anyway I can't see another big star like Elton John or
Robin Gibb
ever wanting to do it after Englebert's failure.
You do realise he died last week?
Oh dear. I guess that rules him out then.
I would imagine so
I didn't watch any of tonight's Eurovision, partly because I'm so sick of singing/dancing/talent shows all year round that Eurovision's not that appealing anymore. Anyway, if we always do so badly why not just pull out altogether? I'm sure I read somewhere that we're a major financial backer of the whole thing (surprise, surprise - another case of Europe having to come cap in hand to us for money) so I don't see why we should continue in this vein if we get no return on our investment. Europe don't want us... so let's leave them to it.
As I keep saying it's time for the BBC to re-vision it's attitide, if by taking it seriously it means ditiching Graham et al and losing 25-30pct of the viewers in the proicess I think it'd be a much better proposition.
There's only one act that even stands a hope in hell of getting a decent result for the UK at present. One Direction but they'd not touch with a bargepole.
It's a shame that The Voice isn't run earlier, it'd be a useful winner prize for that show.

But it's incredibly cheap 3 nights of entertainment for the BBC and it rates well.

Who would you have host the event? After tonight I'd much prefer Ken Bruce or Paddy O'Connell.
I think linking The Voice to Eurovision would be incredibly damaging for the Voice.
