Spain's Eurovision contestant has admitted the country would struggle to host the event if it were to win.
Directors from broadcasters TVE joked to Pastora Soler, who will represent them this year, "Please, don't win!"
"If we won, I think it would be impossible to stage the next edition because it costs so much money," she told ABC Punto Radio.

So what would happen if the hump came up trump and we won it ?

I think it would most probably come from Wembly and look like the X Factor Final from 2011.

Not that that's bad thing.....
Wembley Arena? That's small for Eurovision these days.
Nah, they'd go for Cardiff. If available.

Cardiff would be far, far too big for Eurovision. It would be like 2001 all over again and it would be baron during the semi-finals.
If we were to win anytime soon I image it wouldn't take place in London as I can see the cost of renting out a London arena for the best part of the a month being huge.

Although that's probably the case with Italy, Greece, Ireland and Portugal too. I think the BBC would struggle
Quite a lot of the costs are paid for by sponsorship these days, I wonder if the BBC would be able to use that as long as it doesn't appear on air here.... as already happens.
As for locations, I wonder if there'll be any Olympic legacy that can be used? Not the main stadium, or the pool obviously
Luckily the chances of the UK winning are low - we're on first

I think I'd be right in saying that the BBC does keep some money to the side to cover certain events, whether they be unforeseen news events etc. So, for the Jubilee and the Olympics, millions of pounds were kept out of budgets to adequately cover the large budgets of these two events.
In saying that, I'm sure the BBC would have money in a pot to cover it.

I'd suggest the O2 as a potential UK Venue. Would have all the necessary infrastructure in place and be an attractive location for the overseas delegations.
The EBU have however suggested downscaling the event so smaller arenas might well come into play.
As an aside last years venue the Esprit Arena will host Bundesliga 1 games again from the start of the 2012-3 season, Fortuna Dusseldorf having beaten Hertha Berlin in a playoff for the final berth.

Er the busiest and most expensive arena in the world. No way the BBC would or could afford to book it for a month!

I would say the Odyssey Arena in Belfast would be a good bet. It hosted the MTV Europe Music Awards in November and has a 14,000 capacity.

Have to say the set hasn't done it for me this year, nowhere near as good as last year which was simple, clean and looked rather modern IMHO. This year it feels a little cluttered and over complicated. Also in terms of camera work and direction nothing that has come close to the creativity seen in Petr Elfimov's 2009 performance in Russia (specifically the Segway/steady-cam shot).
Also as much as I think Scott and Sara are good the BBC Three coverage has felt sloppy, at the end of one performance both presenters jump their cue at least twice.
Looking forward to Saturday's final still, hopefully some tricks will be pulled out of the bag.

By sending Jedward (now popular across Europe) they've shot themselves in the foot, unfortunately due to their improved performance, singing and great final placement they stand a real shot. RTE are cash strapped as it is!

It's that kind of thinking that leads to the bland and forgettable Eurovision Song Contests we have seen in recent years. It should either be a studio based show from BBC Television Centre or Salford MediaCityUK or an outside broadcast from a big public space somewhere. It should be presented by some combination of Alex Jones, Vernon Kay, Gordon Burns, Charlotte Gane, Chris Evans and/or Ratz from Live and Kicking.
I think the contest should be presented in the same way as any typical (albeit high budget) programme from the hosting nation would be. Is what we are seeing from Baku typical of Azerbaijan television? Probably not. It doesn't help that they bring in the same people to make the programme each year. That should be a rule too, the production should be staffed by people from the host nation only. Make the programme different every year, give it some local influence.
And another thing, stop building sets that consist of nothing but lights and screens, it's technically very impressive but it is so boring to watch and even though the lights and screens can be used to make every performance look different they somehow all end up looking the same, not just as every other performance but every other programme too.
Thank you.
