I really thought Paddy O'Connell did a great job when he presented the semis a few years back. He would have been a great Terry replacement too. Not a big fan of Sara Cox as the presenter...never seems to be truly in the picture of what's going on.

I guess they thought Paddy O'Connell wasn't very 'BBC Three' anymore and not high profile enough to take on the contest full time. Also I suspect including someone like Mills would guarantee coverage on his Radio 1 show.

The UK spokesperson is Scott Mills so he must be leaving on Friday.

I went on a TVC tour today and noticed outside Studio 4 that they had the Eurovision logo with the Light Your Fire theme on the screen. Would they have used the gallery there to mix the commentary on the feed as mentioned earlier? Also would that be where Scott will be filmed from on Saturday?

Yep - the semi-finals and final will go through a TVC gallery to mix in the commentary, add the UK phone vote graphics, mask the sponsorship logos on the scoreboard etc. That gallery is also likely to handle the in-vision vote spokesperson working into Baku to deliver the UK results.

Yep - Paddy did a great job on the semi-finals when they started in 2004. In 2003/4/5 Paddy was a main BBC Three face (Celebdaq, Liquid News, BBC Three News - as well as the BBC Three Eurovision shows) so an obvious choice. He was also very, very good at it...

These days BBC Three is far more closely allied with Radio 1 than it was - so they presumably went with Radio 1 faces/voices last year. The problem is you get the feeling that Scott and Sara would never watch the Eurovision Semi-finals unless they were being paid to - they just don't 'get it'...

Hopefully Sweden get through tomorrow night, their entry this year is absolutely brilliant!!

Hope they do well - they desperately want to win.

My solution ....

Send Ken Bruce out early and let him do the SFs for BBC TWO, then he can do the Radio Comm on Sat.

I had an amusing Twitfight with Sara Cox over Eurovision .... she's blocked me now,.

I couldn't see it on your Twitter feed but your comment to Tom Delay amused me. And it's quite correct.

Paddy brought a natural sarcasm to it. Mills tries too hard to "be funny" it's embarrassing.

If anyone's interested here's a short video outlining the design for this year's show:
http://vimeo.com/42535738

As some have mentioned- the graphics are mostly just recoloured or improved versions of last years, this is because they've been made by the same company as last year: Turquoise Branding (who are based in London!) Very Happy
