Exactly Noggin.

I assume the jury/viewer split remains for this year.

I guess he's still alive then.

It always amuses me, that attitude when a performer has been out of the limlight for a few years, people assume (s)he is dead Laughing For instance: Try telling people that Mike Yarwood is still alive (which he is)-- and you'll see what I mean!

Seriously though, Engelbert isn't such a bad choice-- let's not forget there was a period when he out-sold The Beatles. I just hope a good song can be found for him; ALW's entry a few years ago, shows what can be done.

The 1950s?

I doubt we'll ever see any of the process before the selection of Engelbert but would be interesting to see how the BBC came to choose him for it. Did Cliff Richard turn them down?

Cliff would surely do it again, he might just want more money the BBC would offer him.

I watch a lot of Scandinavian TV - and the Norwegian entry has already featured as a main guest on a show broadcast in both Sweden and Norway.

That's another problem with the UK's approach. Although Blue and Scooch did one or two performances around Europe in the week of the contest, some acts are out and about weeks before hyping up their performance; you can guarantee Jedward will be shortly!

So far, Humperdinck is doing two press days...

Surely it should be against the rules for country A to play the Eurovision performance of country B before the actual contest, but not all the other entries. It would be unfair against all the other countries that didn't get played in country A.

I think you may be taking things a little seriously there. See it more as a TV programme rather than a contest. If you enjoy the programme then it has been a success. Who wins? Who cares?

What about radio play, broadcast on non-EBU outlets etc.? The only way to enforce this would be to preclude commercial release before the contest (including the EBU CD release...) Not going to happen...

Well no because the official EBU CD contains the songs of all countries - so that's fair. I think if a country (broadcaster) wanted to play their own song before the contest, that's also okay. But if a country plays a Eurovision entry other than their own, that's what will be unfair unless they play them all. It's a bit like the "political voting".

eg. if all countries played just their own entry before the contest, but country A played their own entry and the country B's entry before the contest, that would give country B an unfair advantage.

If countries are going to play the entries of their neighbours or just a few of the entries,, that's going to give those groups of countries unfair advantages over the rest, and lead to "political voting".

As a sidenote, here's Mr Morris directing the 1986 Commonwealth Games. Look closely and you'll see me singing and dancing...
