However I suspect the sales of the DVD are still quite low (it hardly troubles the shelves on the UK high street retailers who deal in the high-volume sales) - so I'd be surprised if any "investment" wasn't just a subsidy. Looking at amazon.co.uk it isn't in the Top 100 pre-orders.
But right now it is the 5th best selling Music DVD on Amazon UK (though that doesn't tell actual sales numbers - and it will probably go down the list quickly after this month) - top 315 in DVD overall, but it's currently ahead of other Music DVDs that also have a Blu-ray release.
Yep - but how many of those Music DVDs with Blu-ray release have zero sales potential in the North American market (probably the largest Blu-ray market at the moment?) ?
Eurovision is effectively a Europe (and a bit further round the edges) only deal - with a possible Korean, Japan and Australian niche (but Korea and Japan would need a 60i master rather than 50i - so unless you release a standards conversion you can ignore those markets, as a 50i Blu-ray won't play on their 60i-only kit, just as in North America. Nothing to do with region coding)
I think the fact that the top 5 Music DVD is only top 315 in DVD sales overall tells you a lot about the sales of music DVDs and Blu-rays. They're niche - and if you can't sell in probably the largest market in the world for Blu-ray (North America) - then a Blu-ray is even more niche.
Don't see it happening for a few more years - if ever...
