@newsatten - I did realise that - probably didn't phrase my post very well, sorry about that. What I meant was, even if the BBC choose the artist, there will have to be some sort of selection show for the song if nothing else. So it won't be the case next year that they just say: "This is what we are going to send!"
First time I've really watched Eurovision. So could someone explain why they are speaking English? Yet are from Germany?
Because English and French are widely spoken languages across Europe, hence why they speak English, and why they repeat it in French after.
Think they're doing it in all three languages (English, French & German) tonight aren't they, which would be a first for Eurovision? Or was that just the earlier bit...
They're not, they're just saying the odd line in German, which is far from a first. Most countries throw in a bit of their own language, and I remember that Ireland used to translate almost everything into Irish in addition to French. I'd imagine this wouldn't be tolerated any more as time is too tight in recent contests for linguistic demonstrations of national pride.
