Because English and French are widely spoken languages across Europe, hence why they speak English, and why they repeat it in French after.
Think they're doing it in all three languages (English, French & German) tonight aren't they, which would be a first for Eurovision? Or was that just the earlier bit...

First time I've really watched Eurovision. So could someone explain why they are speaking English? Yet are from Germany?

The staging is really incredible for this song. (Lighting/smoke/screens and all that)

Any of the songs been on key yet?

No, because, I believe, it's become mandatory to have the song selected by the public from next year, according to the ESC rules...

I've heard the Blue song before but not overly keen on it tonight . Maybe it's just the typical big stadium not coming across well. Picked up towards the end though.
And madmusician - IRRC it's only the song rather than the performer that has to be chosen. Although i've heard that So You Think You Can Dance won't be back next year - so presumably they might have some Saturday Nights free to have a Making your mind up show.
