Any reason why this isn't used on other threads?

Presumably it'd be a bit of a drain on the server to be used much more frequently - but it would be nice to see it used a little more frequently.

Yeah, it's always been judged on a case by case and at the moment it's a bit manual to set up and designed for one topic at a time. Maybe there could be something a bit clever where it kicks in if it notices a new thread has had an unusually high number posts within a short space of time.

I think there is such a mod for vBulletin - so it's certainly possibly in theory.

Examples could be the morning of a major channel rebrand, or something of political/pres significance such as the General Election.
