Was amazed to see the Germans do such a bad job of keeping the show to time. It was the one thing I was thinking was guaranteed. Along with expecting perfect technical provisions.

So they ran massively over, and their commentary systems fell over...

Bring back the Scandinavians... They know what they're doing and do it properly.

Indeed !
I was talking to some German engineers a few months ago, that are supplying kit for this year's EV,
They implied the set up was rather strange. The plan was to have a completely redundant master OB truck, and kit. The problem was that one set up was predominately Sony kit, the other predominately GV/Thomson.
Their opinion was chaos could ensue if there were any problems.

I had the pleasure of working with some of the principal individuals from the NRK EV team, on a related project with them last summer. They are highly organised, stay totally calm in a crisis, and know exactly what they're doing. I'm sure they've been watching events this week with extreme interest !

Yep - Norway and Sweden know what they're doing. And also very nice people to work with.

When NRK hosted last year they had two identical HD trucks (their only HD trucks I believe) working together, but both able to work alone if they had to? (I think there was a performance director and a presentation director?)

Was someone trying to drown Sara?

And how rude of them during the interval to put an act on stage behind Sara as she waffled on about god knows what!

The explanation for the distortion on Sara Cox's microphone has been given as "satellite compression", whatever that means.

Rubbish. Sounded like a dodgy SDI de-embedder or audio synchroniser - though it seemed to happen a short period after she was faded up (so maybe something to do with clocking and the sound desk?).

Satellite Compression doesn't do that on its own...

(There was a very similar audio problem caused by de-embedders on a BBC Christmas Midnight Communion a while back . Made the singing and organ sound - err - interesting...)

Another reason to buy the Blu-ray... Do you think the BBC are on commission - make the semi-final so bad to watch and record live that you have to buy the commercial release to get it without the commentary and to see the interval acts rather than Sarah Cox being inane down a low bitrate SD satellite circuit with half a lamp and two stick mics not usually anywhere close to the person speaking?

Tonight WAS better than Tuesday - and Scott did a good job of turning tweets around fast enough to be relevant. Neither of them are Paddy...

How will we ever cope with not knowing how the famous people were partying?

(At least I think that was what she was trying to introduce)

Be interesting to see the voting order. Apparently they're deciding that based on the televotes from the semi-finals - in a bid to make the final voting more "exciting" based on estimates of voting patterns within each semifinal. I think they may also be using the jury votes from the Friday rehearsal of the final as well?

Anyway, that is it for a another year. We've had overruns, sound problems, graphics problems and someone even got locked in a train toilet for a while. What will 2012 bring? I can't wait!

There is still the final though.

So just me who didn't like the set then?

Nope - I was entirely underwhelmed. NRK's in-house creation in Oslo was much more flexible and interesting - and didn't depend on acres of LED to be impressive. It also gave the jibs, cranes and steadicams more stuff to work with.

I don't think the set was as good as previous years either. Other years had more stuff on stage too.
