True although Paddy O'Connell was known to BBC Three viewers from Celebdaq and Liquid News

What has caused this programme to overrun? Are they just having a longer interval for some reason?

EDIT: I saw a sponsor logo (Vodafone) on the graphics on BBC Three.

No surprise the stage is designed by the same bloke who did The X Factor - the similarities are obvious. Great set though, but not a fan of the graphics. The scoreboard is very bland and the on-screen info covers too much of the screen - last years simple graphics, with no backgrounds, were much better.

Also ridiculous opening the voting at the beginning when the vast majority will not have heard the songs - that's just encouraging countries to vote for their neighbours.

As for tonight's show - well, it seemed a bit, well, safe. Scott Mills doing a good job though, Sara Cox not so much.

Judging by the reaction from the audience when the clip of the UK entry was played we stand a good chance this year

A good chance of bankrupting the BBC! Very Happy Cardiff was mentioned at the weekend as the leading contender should Britain win, under the logic that London won't be able to host anything other than the Olympics next year.

You are forgetting that the BBC has a staff of 8500 over there. That is who you heard cheering.

So, that is is for a another year. All over until 2012.

The end was a bit of a mess. Why didn't they just take the end of the programme rather than showing a confused Sarah Cox on the only camera the BBC have in the auditorium?

The production this year, IMO seems to be the least 'slick' for the past few years. There were a fair few shot choices that seemed to either not do the performance justice, or just seemed totally random. Also not convinced by the return of the mammoth LED wall... it seemed to dominate a few of the performances a little too much.

Saying that, nice graphics this year, and also glad they're keeping the 2 female / 1 male presenter combo, it seems to work really well.

Norway will be lucky to get through the Semi Final I feel, remember the constituency of Eurovision.

A reminder of what I said after the Norwegian Final....

That's a point, although it might make a nice test event in terms of visitors and media. There's loads of potential venues across the UK though and it would be good for the economy of wherever it's held. Maybe they could do a 'Millstreet'

It's a conversation for another place and time but I wonder how much sponsorship the BBC could get away with if they hosted it. Though there's no reason why they should produce it of course - get an indie production company working with one that does big concerts and then get them to monetize it.

There are plenty of big events the BBC covers (in some cases as host broadcaster) that are heavily sponsored, a lot of them sport based, but there are some in other genres: Proms in the Park one example. While the last BBC Eurovision had almost no on-air (possibly none) commercial branding, I feel sure that if the UK won again that would have to different. Even by 2000 ESC had a huge SONY logo on top of one of the on-stage big screens.
