The NYD concert DID NOT overrun, it actually concluded before the end of the scheduled slot, A cutdown Coast was used as a filler, as they usually are for such purposes.

Sorry, I said 'overun' when I meant to say 'underrun'. I didn't notice until thegeek replied and agreed with my mistake.
There was a live Eurovision programme on BBC Two this morning, "New Year's Day Concert 2011".
"the most watched classical concert on TV", apparently. It's been on BBC Two every year for donkey's years - though most of my friends have never heard of it because they're still in bed when it's on. Incidentally, BBC Two only show the second half; the whole concert is live on Radio 3.
Also, despite the concert being made available in HD for the last 4 years, the Beeb remain the only HD equipped EBU member not to show it in HD I think ?

Yes, I was rather looking forward to seeing the Concert in HD and 5.1, having known that it's been in HD for years (I think ORF may have produced it in HD for longer than it's actually been broadcast in HD, if that makes sense). Presumably it's down to the fact that it would need to be shown on BBC HD which isn't normally broadcasting programmes at 11am.

Which was the BBC's answer to someone else in another forum that complained. Doesn't make sense though, BBC HD has opened up earlier than its normal start time of 14:00hrs in the past, notably for Wimbledon.
Also, it could have simulcasted the BBC 4 repeat showing at 19:00hrs, but instead opted to show the tired old Mary Poppins movie and a W&G repeat (again).
This year's theme. As I said on DS it reminds me of a mix of one of Carlton's idents from the early 2000s and the title sequence of Making Your Mind Up 2007.

And it's British. If you read the presser text it was designed by Turquiose based in London.
So, that's NDR saying there are no good graphic design companies in Germany then?
Any news on how the BBC will be selecting the UK entry this year ?
Hopefully not in a similar format to the shambles that was last year.
I would guess considering we've not heard differently yet it will be a one-off show, though after last years shambles I'd hope they'd return to inviting 6-8 individual acts in with their own songs rather than a poor mans ALW.
In my opinion though unless Eurovision switched channels any time soon (which hardly looks likely) I can't see the selection process being significantly improved at all in the near future.
