ALW's illness can't have helped.

Thanks for reminding me about that, I guess if he was originally supposed to do it this year, that wouldn't have helped. But they could have still done the casting with the option to use someone else to write the song/judge when the show comes about, if ALW wasn't well.

ALW was never going to do it this year regardless of his illness. A casting call was sent out last month by the same casting agency as last year so it's looking like they'll be getting another star performer involved. BBC Eurovision (on Twitter) said two weeks ago this Tuesday that there will be an announcement in one or two weeks so hopefully we should know exactly what's happening this week. Also the way things are going schedule-wise it looks like the show will just be a one off which I'd prefer as I really didn't enjoy last year's four/five week format.

MGP is a complete and total ripoff of Melodifestivalen though, and yes the second qualifier was superb. Actually could see him replace Paul M. in A1 to great effect.

It's significant when you research that he's done an awful lot with Alexander Rybak too.

The only thing I was thinking during the performance, though, was how much better it would have sounded if Fredrik Kempe (who wrote it) was singing it.

Yep - ALW is doing this year's West-End casting show (Maria, Joseph, Nancy etc.) to find Dorothy for the Wizard of Oz, I don't think he was ever likely to do a Eurovision show again this year.

The article is a little unclear. It says he's producing it, but doesn't actually say specifically whether he's writing it or not.

Read the title of the release, I know it's so easy to dive into the content of these things and avoid the title, have done it myself many times.

I'd say they have more qualifications on writing pappy European-appealing pish than ALW does.

Yes but even the Europeans are fed up with 'European-appealing pish' as we've discovered over the past few years.

On another Forum a visit to the UK by Alexander Rybak has been discovered hidden in the ESCToday site. Whatever elimination format is chosen the final would seem to be on FRIDAY 12th March 2010.

Fingers crossed, we should be able to confirm the date of the UK's national final tomorrow!
