Add to that Cliff coming 2nd and 3rd (or the other way round) for us in the 70s.
Charlotte Nielsen (then Pirelli) for Sweden - winning in 1999, final of 2008.
Linda Martin for Ireland - 3rd (?) in the 80s and then won in 1991 (?)
Cliff Richard came 2nd in 1968 with "Congratulations" and 3rd in 1973 with "Power To Al Our Friends". Charlotte Nielsen did win for Sweden in 1999 with "Take Me To Your Heaven" she sang 15th and she also sang 15th in the final last year in Belgrade with "Hero". Linda Martin came 2nd in 1984 with "Terminal 3" written by Johnny Logan and she won in 1992 with "Why Me" which was also written by Johnny Logan.
With all this, second and third time lucky stuff, then it looks like Greece may do well this year, after selecting Sakis Rouvas to represent them as he did in 2004.

Yep - forgot about Linda Martin (and who can forget Terminal 3?!) - but didn't mention Charlotte Nielsen because I don't think 2008 can be seen as a success for her...
A very unfortunate year for Charlotte yes, it was described as a catastrophe in Swedish press. I don't feel the territorial voting thing can be used there - see Maria Haukass Storeng - but it was a good song sung by someone just a bit too fake.

I'm not sure there is universal agreement that it was a good song. It was well performed and very well staged - and personally I really liked it. I think the chorus was stronger than the verses...

Lloyd Webber admits his fears for tomorrow night and more or less puts the knife into one of the acts (I wonder which )
Webber's fear for Eurovision act
Jade, Mark and The Twins are battling it out for the UK's Eurovision ticket
Andrew Lloyd Webber has said he is worried that one of his Eurovision finalists may not cope well with representing the UK in Moscow.
The composer said that if the public voted for the wrong act he "might not go" to Russia in May, adding: "I really can't be a miracle worker."
He said he would have to "spend quite a lot more time" with one of the acts.
