It's a shame that Sir Terry has officially stepped down but replacing him with Graham Norton is a terrible decision in my opinion. Having Graham Norton as a commentator is absoloutely terrible, in my opinion Sir Terry was the greatest commentator in Europe and I'd like to thank him for his excellent commentating on the radio from 1971-1972 and on BBC1 from 1973-2008

Thank You Sir Terry Wogan.

How come on the repeats I've seen of the 1974 contest when ABBA won, David Vine appears to be commentating for the BBC ?

I don't think there a permanent commentator was there - not until 1980 when Terry took on the role.

And a quick look at Wikipedia confirms that - it also says that the likes of David Jacobs, Michael Aspel and Dave Lee Travis have all commentated in their time as well!

And Rolf Harris did one apparently. But back then I guess it was all taken as grand affair not the sarcastic farse it's become now.

It's such a shame as Terry to me was Eurovision. At least he got to host one show in his time.

I hope all the changes next year will turn the show's fortunes around!

The last time the Eurovision Song Contest was held in the United Kingdom was 1998 at the National Indoor Arena, Birmingham and was presented by Terry Wogan and Ulrika Jonsson. Terry even did "a spot of commentary for the United Kingdom".

He did more than a spot. He was more commentator than host - he introduced the show and then ran to the stage to present the opening and introduced Ulrika. She did the majority of the presenting and voting whilst Terry was of course pouring scorn on outfits and the voting just a few feet away.

Sorry to drag this thread up yet again this year but it's official..

Norton is new Wogan on Eurovision

So in other words... Strictly Eurovision Fever Grand Final.

Bye bye Terry.

Bye bye Eurovision!

And I don't know why I remember, but Pete Murray was the radio commentator that year.

I guess the one good thing to come out of Sachsgate then is that Jonathan Ross can't muscle in on Eurovision!

Norton is a bit obvious, especially after his flat denial last week, but there are alot worse choices out there!

So instead of having a tired-has been Irish radio personality, we've got a tired-has-been Irish TV personality?

It's a shame Terry is leaving as it was one of the TV gigs that he actually does well and doesn't seem outdated compared to his other TV appearances

Graham Norton is a terrible decision, considering one of the most annoying things about him is his voice and silly laugh, getting him to do a voice only job is awful.

I also imagine it took the BBC about 2 seconds to decide who to replace Terry, it shows how little presenting 'talent' the BBC have on their books thesedays

I expect ratings will now fall as many people dislike Norton
