I think La Voix is a big contender, the bookies would also seem to agree. Its Slovenia 2007 all over again but better. This kind of song brought Slovenia out of the semi-final for the first and only time ever if I'm not mistaken - opera/pop has great appeal and its so very different...I would watch out!

I praying that Alcazar will win it, such a good song and superb choreography.
I love Alcazar (I've loved them in all their three line-ups) and I love the track as a recorded song from the MF CD (mine arrived this week - and rather worryingly I find I like Tick Tock...)
However performde live the girls vocals are not great, and Andreas, and I don't agree about the dancing - it isn't crisp or sharp, and I don't think it particularly sells the song impressively. If they had extra dancers that would help (but I think they already have 3 backing singers so have hit the 6 performer limit?)
Also I'm glad that Sofia got through, it's a great song and it beats Rough Diamond any day.
Yep - don't get the appeal in Amy at all. Faux American whining doesn't do it for me at all - and she looks about 12 (and is tiny!). Quite a good song - but not well sung. (I hated her song last year - the lyrics were quite offensive to native English speakers)
I thought Sofia was better and was pleased that she went through.
Having heard the Disco version of BWO's entry I wish they'd entered that version though. It is a shame that they're not through to the final - they're popular in Russia, Ukraine etc. so would have probably scored quite well at Eurovision.
I think it'll be close between Baby Goodbye (which was number 1 on Swedish iTunes on Saturday), Mans and Alcazar.
Yep - I'd be happy if any of them went through. They're all upbeat and catchy, and Mans and EMD have excellent and memorable performances that could work really well in Moscow (though will Mans and EMD look as good with fewer dancers?).
That said - all of them seem to have killer choruses but pretty weak verses.
I also like La Voix - but it is so obviously supposed to feature Fredrik Kempe himself. I can HEAR him singing it!
BTW - what do we think about MF allowing more performers than Eurovision?

JA
OK, I've only given very dotty opinions so I'll save them all for this post (forgive me for being Tumbly).
Melodi nr 1 - "Hope and Glory"
A strong song, fairly typical of Fredrik Kempe's brand of schlager with a clunky key change. Nice chorus but might have the danger of sounding like Hero last year. Although Zelmerlow is better to look at than Charlotte. 6 points
Melodi nr 2 - "Snalla, Snalla"
Really simple, and growing on me, but Caroline af Ugglas' voice just doesn't sit right with me. Maybe a bit too croaky? Understated performance, and this will probably be a nice song for the juries.
Melodi nr 3 - "Love Love Love"
Agnes has a MF history, having been DQ'ed in 2007 after breaking the silence rules (thus resulting in the "lex Agnes" being introduced). Another nice schlager/disco stomper, with a little bit of retro. Might do well in the jury vote, and fairly well in the public one too, given that Agnes is a former 'Idol' winner. Quite like this one although it sounds quite slow when the beat first kicks in. 2 points
Melodi nr 4 - "1000 Miles"
H.E.A.T.'s song evokes memories of 2006 and The Poodles - and I'd predict a similar result for these guys tonight. The song's an alright rock song but it's nothing special. If anything it's a little more memorable than The Poodles', but that's not really saying much.
Melodi nr 5 - "You're My World"
Aww, I quite like this one. A nice little song that the juries might not like as much as the public. Emilia has a nice retro-sounding voice and a really nice performance too, that could do quite well on an international stage. Probably won't win, but this is probably in my top 3. 8 points
Melodi nr 6 - "Stay The Night"
Another band with a MF pedigree, and Alcazar really benefit from finding the right trio at the right time. Andreas' last entry by himself was left in the bottom 4 of a semifinal, and Lina's last outing in MF was in 2002, so they seem to have found a formula that works. The song is catchy, and will be very popular with the gay audience, however as noggin has said, the choreography has hopefully been worked on before the final. I'd have expected the four backing singers to be more involved in the routine, however. This could do either really well or really badly. In my top 3. 10 points
Melodi nr 7 - "Moving On"
Sarah has just come back from performing as Lucy in 'Jekyll and Hyde' in Sweden, and her performance is so much better for it. Although she seemed to be nursing a sore throat in the semi finals, I was very pleased to see her through to the Final from Andra Chansen. Might do about as well as "I Remember Love" did a few years ago, and despite it being one of 342 songs seemingly touched by Kempe this year, it might be left near the middle. 4 points
Melodi nr 8 - "Baby Goodbye"
E.M.D. contains a decent lineup of Swedish stars, yet the song just doesn't do anything for me. It sounds to me like fairly bland N*Sync tosh, and although the performance is certainly commendable, and original, it leaves me feeling a bit cold. Might do well with the public because of the stars.
Melodi nr 9 - "Alla"
Sofia sings in Greek, which worked in her favour as the International Jury put her through to the final. Not the most amazing song, and sounds like nearly every Greek/Cypriot/Turkish entry in the past 10 years, but can guarantee that the Internationals will like this one. If it went to Eurovision, however, how easily would it sit amongst the other semifinalists. I'm impartial on this one - can't say there's anything wrong with it, yet nothing makes me like it. (Also, Jessica Marberger's face scares me - she's the black haired choir member.)
Melodi nr 10 - "Så Vill Stjärnorna"
Not daring to sing in English, Molly has three top songwriters in Pling, Bobby and Marcos, yet the song still ends up sounding like 'Empty Room' in 3/4 time. The stark contrast between the two youngest stars, Amy Diamond and Molly, however, is very apparent. Molly sounds incredibly mature and powerful in this nice ballad with some juicy chords in the middle. The camera work reminds me of a cross between Sven's direction on 'Empty Room' and Sonja's song from 2007. I agree with you guys, Amy's song just began to annoy me after a while. This might do well with the juries. 1 point
Melodi nr 11 - "La Voix"
My favourite contender now, after not really liking it at first. Malena Ernman is a famous opera singer in Sweden and Germany and her top C is absolutely wonderful. Although Kempe's near nicked the chorus motif from "Nessun Dorma", the fusion is really... cool. The direction and choreography are superb, but can they replicate the sound added by the track's backing singers live? Could be a massive hit in the clubs over summer and this is my top song. 12 points
It's going to be incredibly difficult for the juries on the night, particularly because it's harder to spread 7 sets of points across 11 songs, many of which are good as each other.
I'm not sure I've liked having 8 people on stage this year, neither have I liked having pre-recorded backing vocals allowed. It's taken away something that was always really impressive about MF - the live vocals were nearly always very strong. I can see why they've done it (last year, they had a choir of about 7 people, this year, they've only got four in the house choir, and 4 new "house dancers" - whose choreography has been a real joy to watch) but I think that live vocals are imperative to MF. With 8 people, the stage has sometimes felt a bit crowded.
The stage itself - well I'm not sure I like that either. Last year's set had lots of nice levels and for all it was simplistic, made for some really interesting camera work. This year's set's been quite stark in contrast and the odd prints on the steps make it look a bit cheap. The big LEDs also seem to be used almost too much. I don't think I like having a dedicated presentation podium, as it gets in the way too much, and think the gren room feels a bit odd as well - I preferred it when it was tables and stools (as it felt more like a green room).
Petra has done very well this year, and I've really warmed to her. She almost talks too much, but seems very confident and happy in her role. Make up does wonders though - if you've watched her videoblogs. It's really missing something though - can anyone think what?
Overall this year's Melodifestival will be very interesting on Saturday night - and watch this space as well to see whether Christer still has a job next year, after the allegations from this year (see earlier in the thread).

Not quite axed - they've got the option of changing the lyrics.
Same thing happened in 2005 with the Ukraine entry - which was deemed political because it tied in with the Orange revolution.

Think the track is better than Hero, and a bit more contemporary (Hero felt a bit dated to me), and Mans is a bit more contemporary looking. (Charlotte is quite a "striking" performer - not always an advantage)
The production they've used on MF works very well - it just stuck out as a classier performance. Also his vocals seem to hold out whilst he's doing some quite energetic dance moves.

I think they'll do everything they can to hide the backing singers. They want to appear to be a 3-piece - when in fact they need the backing singers to keep them sounding somewhere near decent. Andreas is a solid singer - but the girls struggle live don't they?
Dancing really needs to improve - it's all a bit "dancing around in your local disco" at the moment.

I like it - but I think it still smacks of novelty. Popera stuff has been knocking around for the last few years - and not done brilliantly.
If you've heard any of the tracks from Boheme or Songs from your Broken Heart - it sounds VERY familiar. (He's done disco-covers of Nessun Dorma, the theme to the Onedin Line - Disco Volante and quite a few others, as a solo performer. The Onedin Line one always cracks me up!)

Hadn't realised that the backing vocals were all pre-recorded this year. That explains the less "live" sound. Listening to the backing tracks on the instrumental versions of songs from previous years there has often been some "backing enhancement" on the backing track - it's a real pity if this year it has only been live "featured performer" vocals. You need to judge the backing singers as much as the front-people (if not more) for overall effect.
