It's ridiculous to think that some people actually think Cyndi's dull rip-off of 'You Raise Me Up' could actually get us anywhere on the scoreboard.
Granted, she has a powerful voice, but it was completely wasted on this song, and in Eurovision.
I'm just so happy for David of Scooch - I'm good friends with him, and when I see him tomorrow I shall congratulate him - I think THAT's more likely to get us the votes.

You are blinded by loyalty. Then again we are loyal to our friends.

That song isn't personally my kind of thing at all, but even in recent Eurovision history, amidst all the novelty songs and gimmicks, the big traditional ballads still have a habit in pulling in lots of votes and I really think, though not a winner, it could have finished in the top ten.
As for that Scooch song, all it does it to reinforce that camp image that Eurovision has nowadays - which is I suppose why people voted for it.

You've mentioned that twice now, are we supposed to be impressed ?
I hope you provide the shoulder to cry on when they come back with the big "nil point".
Aren't you supposed to be a trained musician yet you advocate this kind of crap ?
I think we could just about manage to fill an arena, yeah...
I know we'll never manage anything as grand or whatever as Sweden's Melodifestivalen (6 weeks, 6 arenas, 32 songs whittled down and I love it!) but really, we could do a lot worse than trying
something
along those lines!
I wonder if the BBC are stretching themselves a bit too much lately - especially holding such an event the day after the Comic Releif telethon?
Bear in mind that it was made at a non-BBC studio, so that shouldn't really be a factor.
It did look quite cheap and disorganised though, hadn't there been issues with it, hence it happened so late?
Well all BBC programmes will soon be made in non-BBC studios soon (apart from News)... They're selling off BBC Resources, and when it is sold, like BBC Broadcast (now Red Bee Media) and BBC Technology (now part of Siemens), it will no longer be called "BBC" anything...
The show came from the new-ish big studio at Maidstone Studios, which was built after it was bought by a consortium of local businessmen. I remember reading in Broadcast that they were chuffed that they'd done it for hugely less money than everyone had told them it would cost - seeing the non-existent lighting grid I can see where a lot of the money was saved. It sounded pretty terrible too - not sure if that was staff, kit ,or the studio itself.
The cameras were not being "racked" at all well, and the lighting was average. It felt a bit like it was taking place in a cow-shed or a barn to be honest. The set design itself was nice - loved the LED curtains and the runout into the audience.
Anyone who has seen the Swedish version - Melodifestivalen - will know how well they do their show.
They run for 6 weeks - with the show as an Outside Broadcast from a different Swedish town/city each week, they re-build the set in a sports centre or other suitable venue every week. There are 4 shows of 8 songs each, with 2 songs from each show going to the final, then a second 2 songs from each show going to a "second chance" show - which runs in week 5. 2 songs from the second chance show then join the other 8 in the final - so the final week has a choice of 10. The final is held in The Globen - which is where they held their Eurovision Song Contest in 2000. It's an amazing show - and the final is usually the most watched show in Sweden all year... Their music chart's top 10 is usually full of entries to the contest.
It's a real pity we can't just embrace Eurovision for what it is, and have a lot more fun for a couple of weeks chosing a song. We still seem embarassed by it - at least we've entered something distinctive (and camp) this year, and the group at least have performed in the past. Camp may not be what is needed to win Eurovision these days - but at least it is fun. (I think putting the European capitals in the lyrics was a smart move - and if they perform it wittily it will at least stand out in people's minds when they vote)
I think that's the problem, all of the BBC's resources went into Comic Relief last night, leaving nothing for Eurovision: MYMU. If they had given it an extra week or two, they would have been able to broadcast Eurovision from TC1, and spend the extra time perfecting the show.
Apparently the BBC were pushing it with the EBU by waiting this late to decide their entry.
They should have done it earlier then!
Hmm I don't know though - we've all been concentrating too much on making sure Tara Palmer-Sillyface wins Fame Academy.
It should have been earlier than that then
But I suppose that would have conflicted with that cheap talent show Graham Norton was hosting a few weeks ago
I didn't see most of the show, but I can imagine what Terry's performance was like, and considering Fearne has bearly been off TV or Radio in the past 24 hours, it's good to see that she was holding it together
