Earlier today I happened to have my TV on The Hits, and saw the pop video for Ricky Martin - "Livin' La Vida Loca". That came out in the 1990s.

It suddenly occurred to me, this year's Eurovision Song Contest entry for Greece, "Yassou Maria", in my opinion, sounds decidedly similar to Ricky Martin's "Livin' La Vida Loca". Do any other Eurovision fans agree or disagree with me on that?

You dug up a 1½ month old thread just to say that?!

Well at least it's not 3 or 6 months since the last reply. Anyway, it's something that happened to dawn on me today, so I thought it was worth pointing out. Has everyone (even hardened ESC fans) forgotten about the Eurovision Song Contest since July, and wants to say no more about it till next March?

THAT is bumping.

Fermez-vous le fil, s'il vous plait les modérateurs et Asa.

edit : and as soon as you've grasped the concept of when and when not to use the 'new thread' button, it should come into focus why you are considered to be such a humourously void cretin round these parts.

OK what do you expect me to do? Launch a new thread for casual chat about Eurovision Song Contests over the years as an interim until next March, when a further new thread specifically about Eurovision Song Cotntest 2008 can be started?

Just for your information, on Digital Spy Forums last year, the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 thread was locked within days of the contest, presumably because it had got so enormous (particularly with brief posts on the nights of the semi-final and grand final). Someone else then launcehd a "general" Eurovison Song Contest thread, which had a fair few replies the first few weeks after ESC 2006, then come summer had dormant periods, with occasional posts which you could say were "bumping" the thread. There were a fair few around the time of the JESC at the beginning of December last year, and then at the beginning of January, the thread was retitled Eurovision 2007 or similar. There were a fair few posts during January and February, and it really started taking off in early March.

Would you rather THIS thread was closed and a new Eurovision general discussion thread started now?

You've just made a major error in quoting a system from Digital Spew.

Now. Put it like this.

We would rather you either created a new thread and pointed out that it would be rude to bump the old thread as it was due to be archived, or responded to this thread but apologised for dragging it up after all this time.

That concept is called 'courtesy, etiquette and common sense'.

You want people to apologise for posting now?

I think Tumble Tower made the correct decision in replying to this thread. Its better than having a new thread pointing out that one song sounds like another which if it hadn't been made by Tumble Tower would probably not have got any replies anyway.

Its better for the people that subscribed to the Eurovision thread but maybe don't visit TV Forum very often because they get an email saying that someone is talking about Eurovision again. Its better for people that are searching in 'the Eurovision thread' if there is only one to search through. Either way, a 'new' thread is going to appear on the front page and either way, if no one is interested then it will be sink down the list. You can tell its an old thread anyway, so where is the problem?

Tumble Tower's comment belongs in this thread. There is a time for starting new threads and there is a time for replying to old ones. People seem to have problem working out what to do.

Thats why we end up with the ridiculous situation where the only mention of all the BBC channels going off air on DSAT a couple of months ago ends up in a thread about the BBC 2 rebrand but an equally stupid situation where we have two active threads about Channel 4 presentation.

Agreed jrothwell97 is desperate for attention and is now replying to every Tumble Post.

This evening I listened to the official ESC 2007 CD. Quite frankly, I think the pre-recorded version of Scooch - "Flying the Flag" sounds better than the effort made on the night of the ESC 2007 grand final. On the night, the live performance had a more up-tempo ba-ba-ba bit during the verses which didn't sound right, whereas that bit on the CD version sounds just right. The tannoy announcements like "To use the life vest" were, in my opinion, a bit overpowering to the sung bits in the live performance.

I don't think anyone really cares about Eurovision anymore. Nonetheless I'd say although I don't even think that the post belongs on here, it was posted in the right thread.

jrothwell just wants to appear big by insulting the village idiot.

Eurovision will be instantly killed off anyway if Norton replaces Sir Wogan in years to come.

Yes there is, the first ever Eurovision Dance Contest is on BBC One (B1) tomorrow evening 8pm to 10:15pm (20:00 to 22:15).

As a keen fan of the Eurovision Song Contest since I was a kid, I for one will DEFINITELY watch Eurovision Dance Contest, to see how that compares. Might even join in and copy the performers Rolling Eyes

WHY? What's wrong with Graham Norton?
