Oh dear...there was a simple choice between a song that would have seen the UK finish in the top half of the Eurovision scoreboard...and one that would see us in the bottom half.
And for a precious few seconds it looked like the Great British Public had actually chosen the correct one.
Priceless! There's a reason why every other show with two presenters only gets one of them to announce the winner.
Nice big studio but the part of the show that I saw seemed pretty amateur in terms of production - lights not on, presenters not knowing where to stand or their cue. The logic wasn't much better with having the winning song done twice within the space of a few minutes. Back to Song for Europe on a sleepy Sunday, anyone?
Yes Asa - I was just about to post a similar thing.
That has to be one of the worst BBC-produced live programmes ever!
As you say the studio direction was lacking, there didnt really seem to be any particular presenting positions within the studio set, the was very little lighting resulting in just heads or body parts being visible.
The actual performances weren't too bad but it was everything else inbetween.
Luckily Fern was on hand as Terry didnt seem to know what on earth was happening. He thought the contest was over until Fern appeared to state that phone lines were back open and you could vote for the winner from the final two - but text lines were closed!
It wasnt explained whether the previous votes were still counted or whether this was a brand new vote out of the current two.
I wonder if the BBC are stretching themselves a bit too much lately - especially holding such an event the day after the Comic Releif telethon?
Fern hosted both and done remarkably well but then goes to show that anybody could turn up, read an autocue and get away with it.
The whole programme felt a bit cheap and the announcement at the end with the result has left me speechless. Just like Scooch originally but then Cyndi!
I only saw the final 20 minutes of the show and I agree with Asa...very amateurish in terms of production and that cock-up at the end was absolutely cringeworthy.
A mini-Fame Academy style series could be the way forward.
A singer-songwriter challenge where over a few weeks 6-8 singers perform original songs and are eliminated each week in the usual format.
And then once we have the winner, the next week they return to perform all their songs from the last six weeks or so and a winner is selected from that.
It simply needs to return though to being about good song writers, not faded pop stars wanting another 15 minutes of fame.

Still, there's always 2008...
WHAT?It's not that bad! It's different and where else are you going to find a plane-based band?Although i wouldn't have called them Scoot/Scooch.
