No, each individual country could still select their own song as we can't vote for ourselves anyway. Only in the semi-final and final would the countries would be undisclsoed.

So the UK has a contest and selects an entrant, the details of which are all over the net within a few seconds of choosing it, somehow this information is withheld from the audience of the contests, IT WOULDN'T WORK.

Also was it me or at the beginning and the end of the semi-finals, Have they replaces 'Te Deum' with just some random swooshes? I hope this changes for the final.

Now here's a radicel ideaa. . The songs go on air without the countyrs name. Therefore, no one knows what country is performing until all votes have been counted and then when the scorebord is unvaled the countries name is against the song numbre. This means people would have to vote for song and not use thier vote poilotically. This way other countries may get a look in. if this had happened last night, then Switzerland, denmark and Noway would all have been in the final.

I like the idea, but in the days of the internet etc. it just wouldn't work unfortunately.

Titles / End Credits

The start of the semi final of the contest was abysmal due to the BBC inserting their own material, regrettably the end credits were also hacked, as the final also will be due to the presence of sponsors logos in them.

Unfortunately of the four credit sequences the only accurate one will be the start of the final.

The only source of the full titles in the UK will be the DVD release in a few weeks time.

Hatton Cross posted:

So, here's the Hatton Cross annual improvements to reduce the block vote factor.
1) Open the phone/text line for each country AFTER that performance has finished. This should provide an more even spread of votes, and end the quite ridiculous 10mins to vote scrum at 9.45pm. I've suspected that most votes are given to the neighbours because in the short space of time it's the only ones on mainland Europe that the voting public can remember.

Wouldn't that give the early songs an advantage and the songs near the end a massive disadvantage?

Quote:

3) After all the votes have been counted, you can only give a maximum 6 points to a land or sea bordering country. So, therefore Switzerland can only give 6 to Germany, Italy, France and Lichtenstein (if they ever entered). The UK could only give 6 to, Ireland, Iceland, Norway, The Netherlands, and France. This would stop in an instant some of the more doubious voting from our former Soviet friends.

Interesting, but as well as restricting what the eastern countries do it would also amplify the disadvantage that the old big coutries have . The UK would have 5 (or 7 if you include Belguim and Denmark) countries that can't give us 12 votes, 9 that can't for Germany etc.

And what about Israel and Malta?

This Map I've knocked up shows very graphically how the balance of the contest has been radically changed for the final .....

I'm currently listening to the official ESC 2007 CD double album. I've programmed my midi system to play only the 24 finalists in the order they'll appear tomorrow evening.

Just listened to Sweden . Quite a catchy song, I'd call it a Beach Boys style song. Could go close, but not a winner.

Now for France : better than the last couple of years, I think they're trying to do a bit better this year, but still not that great. Reminds me of the UK pop song (non-Eurovision) "Pure and Simple Everytime" which came out late 80s / early 90s - who was it by?

So far I've listened to the following finalists:

Bosnia & Herzegovina
Spain
Belarus
Ireland
Finland
FYR Macedonia
Slovenia
Hungary
Lithuania
Greece
Georgia
Sweden
France
Latvia

Of these, I particularly like Slovenia and Latvia. If I had to choose a winner from one of the above, it would have to be Slovenia, and Latvia second or third.

I'm appalled that Hungary and Georgia have made it to the final, they are a load of nauseating trash to my ears. How did they make it? I'd sooner have seen Denmark and Norway in the final in place of Hungary and Georgia.

Russia is equally trashy, but that was a direct qualifier, it didn't go through the semi-final so we can't grumble on that.

Well what a sorry situation we're in. Of our six MYMU contenders, I liked Scooch most of all, that's the one I voted for. When it was down to Cyndi or Scooch in the sing-off, I was glad Scooch won - I felt it was more up beat and more hopeful than Cyndi. The only "half hopeful" of the six.

Unfortunately, I notice Scooch are sandwiched between the following two songs:

Song 18: Ukraine - an upbeat, powerful song.
Song 20: Romania - another catchy song, starts slow and gets faster.

"Flying The Flag (For You)" by Scooch sounds a bit quiet between the songs of Ukraine and Romania. All will be revealed tomorrow evening during voing.

As for Bulgaria and Turkey, they're another two I didn't want in the final. Altogether there's FOUR that I didn't want in the final:

Hungary, Georgia, Bulgaria and Turkey

In their places I'd much rather have seen Denmark, Norway, Portugal and either Switzerland or Cyprus.
