My prediction...bottom five

20. Lithuania 22 points
21. France 14 points
22. Ireland 10 points
23. Armenia 8 points
24. United Kingdom 0 points

I used it on the likeness of their songs.

I think you're being a bit optimistic about Ireland..... AND I'M IRISH!!! The song was chosen by viewers of the Irish equivalent of Parkie - Nice one RTE - the average Eurotrash viewer that actually votes is about 9....

We should withdraw our funding for this event. We will never win, no matter what we put forward as an entry anymore, unless we suddenly become a former-Yugoslav or Soviet state.

The other main contributors should do the same now (France, Germany, Italy?, and Spain)

It was originally a light-hearted competition to bring Europe together many decades ago because of international satellite/cable capability. But it has become an "I'm you're best mate" voting session between embryonic nations or ethinic groupings. It's creating more divisions that it was intended to rectify.

Me and my mates aren't even sure whether or not to hold our annual Eurovision Drinking Party anymore Rolling Eyes . The whole ethos has been spoiled.

If we had a proper bash at the selection of our entry, we'd do much better, a one off do lasting an hour and a bit just doesn't compare with other entrants who take it much more seriously.

Ireland copied THE X FACTOR three years in a row and failed miserably

I guess it depends how we want to tofine a miserable failure - coming last in the thing or having to host the thing

Gina G didn't do that well in the contest in comparison - though the record was more popular in the charts than the contest!

I think her performance on the night let her down. She was 'just a little bit' flat through much of the song... although not on a Jemini scale.

The UK songs never sound the same technically on Eurovision as they do on the likes of TOTP.

Why is that? Bigger arena? Different acoustics?

Incidentally there is a TOTP 2 Eurovision special tonight, which I assume will use mostly TOTP performances.

Why don't they use Eurovision footage, especially when the relavant TOTP footage is unavailable, eg Cliff Richard - Power To All Our Friends. I've never seen TOTP footage, as I assume it's wiped.

Is there a rights issue?

Can I suggest you look up 'Melodifestivalen' the Swedish selection process?. That's how it should be done - Six successive Saturday Nights in top theatres/venues nationwide with shows lasting 90 - 120 minutes each

Novelty acts such as the truly awful Daz Sampson and this year's equally awful thing would rapidly get the push and respectable musical talent would show through.

No. The current allowance for all ESC broadcasters (taken from the 2003 published rules, and I think is still in use) is for 30 days after the live broadcast to repeat in full or edited highlights as many times as they want on any terrestrial or digital channel of the broadcaster.

After the 30 days is up, broadcasters can not show more than 8 minutes of footage - or more than 2 mins per song from any previous contest.

But respectable music acts arent going to win it has to be a novaltly act to be noticed and lets face we cant win anyway due to the voting situation. Also I think the british people wouldnt be intrested in a drawn out selection procces for Eurovision.

Chris.

This year's song "Flying the flag for you" by Scooch is, in my opinion, 1000 times better than Daz's entry of last year.
