The Eurovision Song Contest is a huge event across the world, which unites nations with one common human passion; the love of music.
In the context of the contest, I think "flying the flag all over the world" could easily be interpreted as "we're singing out for peace and love all over the world".

It's obvious Skooch are going to lose though, that song sounds like the Spice Girls. It's just too cheesy.
500 Miles
or
Amarillo
would do better...

Are you taking the p***? I take it that's some marketing jizz?
It's a very grand proclamation from someone who styles themself "trivialmatters".

Who would have thought Eurovision could be so deep and profound
Daz didn't flop just because he was cheesy, he also offered something instantly forgettable! Bucks Fizz were cheesy and they won

It really gets me the way some people take Eurovision way too seriously. The whole point is it's a bit of silly, camp fun and is not by any means a method of deciding the best musical writing and performing talent in Europe.
If it was we'd have the likes of Coldplay, Elton John and Robbie Williams clamouring to represent the UK. In turn they'd take on the might of U2 representing Ireland, and the rest of Europe wouldn't stand a chance.
Even if we entered another Katrina And The Waves I very much doubt at the moment that we'd stand a chance of winning considering the current bias against the UK (whether it be because of the Iraq war, or just a general bias against the long-standing Eurovision countries). So we might as well have a bit of a laugh with a fun, cheesy song like Scooch's.
Yes, it's cheap and tacky, and the lyrics probably won't be poured over by academics for years to come trying to find hidden meanings, but it's fun , and that's what Eurovision is all about.

It's quite amusing to watch all the intense analysis and speculation going on in here; it gets shown in Australia on SBS and isn't marketed as anything other than Euro-tastic comedy alongside cult shows like the Iron Chef (you do have it in the UK, right?). I'll add here that last year's shown was hilarious.

TBH - Most see Eurovision as some harmless fun I think.... After all, it's difficult to take it any other wat with Terry's commentary!

Well after watching their performance on The Graham Norton Show last night, it's not the song we should worry about it's the singing. They sang out of tune throughout the song. That's why Jemini got nil points.
Let's look at some facts, the UK need to have a very strong entry nowadays as the Eastern Europeans vote for themselves and sadly there seems to be a new one each year to add to their bad taste vote. Greece & Cyprus won't give us top marks although Cyprus does tend to offer us something each year. Then with have all the Northern Europe countries voting for their neighbours. That's where a lot of wasted votes go. We seem to depend on Ireland and Malta to give us a half decent mark, then we pick up the low marks from the rest.
I think Cyndi's song was strong enough to maybe get us Top Ten but it wasn't a "Love ShineThe Light". As for Scooch It could go either way, as a number of the old school countries like camp songs and let's face it it's 10 times better then that awful chav entry from last year.
I do think it was a very bad idea to let all the countries vote, even those who weren't in the final, that is what is making a mockery of the show.
