On the point of Melodifestivalen - I'm actually obsessed, SVT does a fantastic job every year. I felt sorry for Tommy Nilsson this year (hardcore ESC fans will remember that he won in 1989 with 'En Dag', then came fourth in the contest in Switzerland), receiving no poång from any of the juries nor of the public.

See, why can't we have someone half decent like Kristian Luuk was for Sweden, presenting the contest? Leave Wogan to commentate the semi finals.

The BBC could also shove a premium rate jobby in offering tickets to the finals plus VIP whatever if you guess Wogan's fee correctly for this year's contest.

Are you joking? Terry Wogan (and his commentary) are the only thing that makes Eurovision watchable for me Laughing Even if he does get the name of British entrant wrong Wink

I think the suggestion is that Terry is a great commentator for the contest (though he seems to be becoming increasingly acerbic and barbed at times) but maybe he isn't the right presenter for MYMU these days.

I think you could change the presentation line-up of MYMU, but keep Terry for the final commentary. (Though Paddy is great on the semis - though if the double-semi with voting only from participating countries, and screening not obligatory for non-participating countries, goes ahead - the Beeb may no longer have to show the semi(s) )

OK, fair enough I take your point. Maybe they should get Cheryl Baker to present MYMU since is a TV presenter, and MYMU was her song Laughing

Forgive me for being pedantic, how can something be "more" random than something else? Either something is random or it isn't surely? How I am supposed to get out more, when I've got posts like this to write Wink

Yeah, I'm a closet Eurovsion fan and I think Melodifestivalen is a brilliant competition and I wish our NF was like that, a Swede described it to me as something like "Melodifestivalen is bigger than Eurovision itself". I thought Jag Tror På Människan (I believe in mankind) wasn't that bad and I was suprised it finished with "Nol poäng". Usually I like at least one entry from MF even if it doesn't go on to represent Sweden but most of my favourite Eurovsion entries come from Sweden. I don't think we should get rid of Terry Wogan in my opinion he's the best commentator in Europe and it's a shame that Colin Berry doesn't do the results from the UK anymore.

BTW - if anyone wants an idea just how big Melodifestivalen is in Sweden - just look at their top 10 this week :

http://allcharts.org/music/sweden/singles.htm

9 of the top 10 singles are from Melodifestivalen. The odd-one-out is Linda Bengtzing and Markoolio's mickey take of Melodifestivalen, which is at number 8 (and is hilarious if you watch the video on Youtube)

It's amazing that 9 out of the Top 10 were sung in the 2007 MF final. I'm currently listening to Linda Bengtzing and Markoolio's song and the tune reminds me of something similar to Fame (Sweden 2003), click here to watch Linda and Markoolio's video. The tune is very good and I bet the lyrics are taking the mick. The schlager is still big in Sweden probably hence why some of the songs either in MF or represting Sweden in ESC are so good!

BBC really protecting Wogan over this one - basically saying that there were no technical problems and Wogan was given the correct information, but then adding they don't blame him for the gaffe!

So who is to blame then?

A big boy did it and ran away.

Let it go. Having managed to go off script at a show at the weekend I can assure you the ignominy is bad enough without anyone pointing the finger.

Maybe BA could use this "Flying The Flag" song on their adverts, as it suits British Airways recent reputation well.

I was surprised that even the Director General has made a comment and said it was definally not Wogan's fault.

The latest story on BBC News online says it was not a technical fault

That was said by the DG in his interview this week on Sunday AM. If you were watching it was a throwaway line, said slightly in jest. Everyone is taking it as a concrete "it wasn't Terry's fault" - whereas it was said more with a "Terry can do no wrong cos he's Terry" attitude I felt...

The Linda and Markoolio track is definitely a mickey take - though it is also fab (and apparently was submitted to MF?)

Markoolio playing lots of Schlager/MF characters (Alexander Bard from BWO/Army of Lovers etc.) and ends with Carola's favourite stage prop (her wind machine) attacking Linda.

Here is a rough translation - courtesty popjustice.com's messageboards :

It starts good, almost interesting
- Yeah, yeah, but perhaps a bit familiar
We’re building up for the bridge, my friend
But it’s not coming quite yet
Because we have half a verse left to do
- A repetition one is used to do
We’re building up for the bridge again
And here it is, finally!

The excitement is rising for the point of the song
A really catchy chorus:

And there is love and there are winds
There are eyes and they’re sparkling
And lots of other tired old clichés
Which says everything and nothing
And there are stars and they’re on fire
There’s the world and it’s fading
And the title shall sit as a punch in the stomach
Oh what a schlager!

Now it’s getting hard to come up with
- Something new to say, but whatever
This is just transport anyway
Which people will forget
Because what’s rewarded with 12 points
Is a really catchy chorus:

And there is love and there are winds
There are eyes and they’re sparkling
And lots of other tired old clichés
Which says everything and nothing
And there are stars and they’re on fire
There’s the world and it’s fading
And the title shall sit as a punch in the stomach
Oh what a schlager!

And if you don’t want to mess up your chances of winning
You’ll steal something from ABBA and see the risk vanishing
So now everyone – hold onto your hats
Here’s the key change at last!

And there is love and there are winds
There are eyes and they’re sparkling
And lots of other tired old clichés
Which says everything and nothing
And there are stars and they’re on fire
There’s the world and it’s fading
And the title shall sit as a punch in the stomach
Oh what a schlager!
