Some facts about this year's contest:

akoe06.livejournal.com posted:
Next year's show will be on May 10th and May 12th.

Australia, Austria, Kosovo, Azerbaijan and Georgia will be showing this year's show in addition to the 37 competing nations and Serbia & Montenegro who will vote.

The length of this year's semi is 2.15 and the final is 3.05, the final is 25 minutes shorter than last year with the new voting sequence.

The "spidercam" is a first for Eurovision.

ERT will record the show in HD but it will not be broadcast in HD. The HD version is for the EBU library.

The full voting in the semi-final will only be announced after the final.

The draw for the voting order was established because Friday was too late to set up satellite links.

Anyone know why Agent K*p**n**y is featured in the trailers for the Eurovision Song Content? Is she involved on the night as well?

But then the songs at the start would be far more likely to win and the last few songs would always lose.

Hurdle over that problem by reversing the running order during the number run-down after the last song performance.
So song 26 hits the screen first and song 1 is on last.

We'd still have 2 hours to vote for song number 1 though

However as it's sugesstive, then I'll let 12 from the good folk of Portugal (even though the only thing they gave the world was Pri Pri Chicken).

And port of course! Very Happy

I'll be watching this Saturday (because I don't have a life! lol) Bah dada-dadada-daaaa dada..'EBU' "Hello from Athens!...Old Tel with you for another year.."

Anyone know the running order? I hope we're not performing first.

BBC Three's semifinal coverage could be interesting - I hear suggestions that Paddy may be in-vision from his booth at some points... (Ad breaks etc.)

Tezza's been in-vision once or twice before - but I think it was only when the hosts made a reference to him.

By the way - giving the UK's voting results this year will be.... Fearne Cotton! It was bad enough when we had Lorraine Kelly doing it!

Whatever happened to good old Colin Berry "sitting in the Thames"?

Many Eurovision countries seem to be going down the "younger presenter" route for delivering votes these days - I think most broadcasters want to portray themselves, their country and the contest as modern and up-to-date (ha!) rather than a bit traditional and comforting.

In recent years they've ditched mentioning "BBC" when they pop up to deliver the votes - for years it seemed only the BBC used their name in the hello bit. "This is the BBC in London, here are the votes from the UK " or similar.

And 1hr 57 for Song 2 etc.

I think that part of the problem is the woefully short 8 mins allowed for the public vote. Have all the phonelines open from the start then. A good song and you can ring in and vote. An even spread of votes, and a decent song may just win it, instead of 'those next door' factor coming into play.

However, having seen a preview of the Finnish entry this year - with a hop, skip and a following wind in Athens this year, we may just be going to Helsinki next year.

That's because the BBC logo is behind the presenter.
Most national broadcasters put their logo behind the votes presenter - or if the broadcaster wants to suck up to the EBU, the EBU 3 points and circle corporate logo as well as the local logo as well!

There has never been a lock-out camera in the commentary booth before. Not even at the NIA in 1998 when the BBC built Wogan his comm booth just off the main stage.

One year in the 1980's the camera panned around the back of the arena to where the national commentators were all positioned and Wogan held up a massive "Hello Mum" sign to the window.
