Shame its not free-to-air though. If you don't have Top Up TV there are no live sport channels on Freeview which is a shame for us sports fans.

True. But for the same reasons there are no movie channels on freeview. If that were to happen no one would pay for any subscription channels anymore!

I don't think that that is true.. the same people who did bid.tv has free movie channels

Look at the said movie channels though - they're not the best in the world really, are they?

Just who the hell forms a "focus group"? There the biggest waste of time and effort known to man. To be blunt there f-ing useless, just look at recent government policy, Marching homeless people to cash points, Jesus!
Have people lost the ability to think for themselves? and I've yet to meet a single person ever involved in these things...

You been watching BBC Four's 'The Thick of It"? Had a pretty funny episode involving a focus group on it last week, and it proved your point rather well.
In the social science research courses I've taken at Uni all of our lecturers have told us to think really critically about any conclusions made using focus groups. As an aside, they are now extremely popular in market research but I'm yet to be convinced. People are too likely to lie, or not be representative in a focus group or not want to say what they really think in front of other people. I'm not suggesting this is the case with Top Up TV, but this research method does seem to be a bit of a craze at the moment, with the results perhaps being pretty questionable.

Hell yeah! It is a brilliant comedy - certainly the best thing out of BBC 4 since The Alan Clarke Diaries,
Chris Langham was on the Wright Stuff this morning, which ended up with me getting a lecture from my boss on company wastage....
Certainly shall be watching this Thursday final episode, Hope they can see it wise to commission a series!

Wasn't Freeview supposed to get Setanta Sports at one stage?
Is this still going to happen?

Freeview viewers do kind of get a free to air BBC Sport channel in all but name via BBCi when they have the rights to any major event (e.g. Snooker, French Open, Moto GP)

The last I heard of that was in early 03.

I heard that "FreeSport" a new channel may launch a bid, But this was a
DigiSpy comment so to no surprise I haven't heard anything on it!

Freeview could do with some Sports aspect, Crown Castle stated they would give preferance to a Sports and/or Film channel coming to the platform yet we have Ideal World... Confused
I really hope there can be some more diversity; Theres seems to me to be an excess of channels which "we" already have - Shopping Channels namly. CC could really make the service alot more appealing;
Just some simple steps.

Wasn't there also a leaked rumour that the BBC were planning and looking at a Sports Channel to add to its portfolio?

Linicker 24 ?

The latest sport channel rumour was that UKTV Bright Ideas would be replaced with UKTV Sport.

Ahh, yes DS was on this one, do you reckon theres actually any truth to it?
It would surprise me if they did launch this channel, but there has been alot of talk about UKTV Bright Ideas not been so bright and been scraped. Shall ring around, see what pops up...

There was some evidence to suggest it - postal addresses, business registers, website registrations etc... TBH what good would a sport channel be on a weekday between 6am and 6pm?

Yes I remember that, Somewhere in the Docklands if im not mistaken. And yes as you suggest at set time slot for a sports channel would be pretty useless, bit like News 16...Just doesn't work...

Are the BBC allowed to statmux? I'm not sure. If they are they could easily launch a new BBC Sport channel. After all, sometimes Sky Sports 1 has only one live event per day - say one football match or one rugby game- the rest is repeats. BBC Sport continaully chugs out sporting output on BBCi - why not give it its own dedicated channel?

Or why not have an EPG number for BBC Sport events like 437 for Prem Plus on Sky? That would make it easier for people to get there. Instead of "Press Red for interactive tennis / snooker", it could be "coverage continues on BBC Sport Events, channel 59 on Freeview".

It'll never happen but....
