05/01/05 Eurosport 2 to replace Eurosport News
Eurosport is launching a subsidiary channel to accommodate its flagship service. Next week will see the launch of Eurosport 2, which will broadcast further sports programming left out by its main Eurosport channel. The change will mean the closure of Eurosport News, which is being replaced with the new channel. Eurosport 2 has vowed to continue to broadcast news reports for all major sports. Eurosport is available on EPG 410 and Eurosport News is currently available on EPG 411, which from Monday will be renamed to Eurosport 2.

I think this launch is long overdue for a channel like Eurosport, it was rumoured a few years ago but it didn't happen at all, but it will come handy when Eurosport overruns on some sports at the expense of others.

Not surprised Eurosport News has been given the boot - awful channel compared to Sky Sports News, even if they are too football-biased.

Too football biased is an understatement, they are a football news channel.
Even on the day that England won the Rugby World Cup, that was just a footnote

Agreed Sky Sports News is too football biased, but thats what the fair majority of people subscribe to Sky Sports for really, the football and its what gets the viewers.

Anyway yes SSN is too much about footy, Eurosport News sends you to sleep, theres no in-vision presenting, just clips and someone who sounds very boring just reading it to you. BTW Does British Eurosport still have in-vision? I remember seeing the Sports News on there one night and it was more interesting than ESN, also had an in-vision goodnight announcement too. (Well I was watching at about 1.00am)

God knows why people subscribe to Sly Sports, I have found them to be a rip off when it comes to EPL footie!

Erm, sub to them because I like watching football.

Expensive? Yes. A rip off? Probably. Any other choice if you want to watch live football? Barely.

Come on the EU.

Well, I tend to find they're not so much entirely football, but more entirely sports-that-are-on-Sky-Sports...

Heavy football bias follows heavy we've got rights bias.

Either way, it's 100 times the channel ESN was/is.

Looking at the EPG for next Tuesday, it appears that 'proper' programming is running on Eurosport 2 only between 2 - 10pm.

The rest of the time Eurosport News behaves like it's business as usual...

EuropsportNews became Eurosport2 at 1:00 this morning, but nothing changed really since the EPG for showed something called Eurosport2 News which was basically EurosportNews, so it just carried on broadcasting as if nothing changed. Haven't seen it today to see if anything is new.

The NTL EPG has changed it from Eurosport News to Eurosport GB 2! Which is rather odd, presentation wise it is the same as Eurosport, the DOG is really, it just has a 2 in a red square at the end of the logo. It has a constant Sports ticker on the bottom of the screen at a very slow pace, whilst the News has a clock under neath the DOG, in the same way as Eurosport News used to. i.e. Athens 20:46 then changes to London 18:46 etc.

As far as I can tell from watching a bit of self-promotion on the channel itself last night, the new Eurosport 2 channel is Europe-wide. Whereas Britain has long had it's own version of the original Eurosport channel in the name of British Eurosport (Eurosport 2 doesn't have the word British in the DOG).

The promo made no mention of EurosportNews closing, in fact mentioned it as one of the "Eurosport family since 2000". Can anyone confirm whether EurosportNews is still carried across continental Europe as well as Eurosport and Eurosport 2?

The news ticker on the new channel is too slow, but I like the idea of the different tickers; Headlines, Results etc., a la CNN.
