BBC World never seems label its news programmes properly within its schedule! Everything, including The World Today, is labelled as "BBC News" - and when introducing these BBC News bulletins, the presenters always say "BBC World News"!
European Breakfast is the collective name given to the 0500 GMT The World Today and the two following bulletins of BBC News. They don't really differ that much in content, more in a cosmetic way. The bulletins start with the twinkle and vamp, and no business/sport stings are used etc. It is supposed to have a more European spin on the news, but I can't really say I have noticed it that much. The European Breakfast also contains three editions of World Business Report and one edition of Sport Today. News usually presented by Martine Dennis; business usually by either Tanya Beckett or Sally Bundock.

The European Breakfast on BBC World starts at 06.00 CET with The World Today and finishes after the 08.00 CET news program. Its not titled European Breakfast as it is just BBC World News but it has mainly European stories during this time. BBC World Weather also concentrates on different global regions during that regions peak hours.

Its' wierd the way they trail the programme(s) as "European Breakfast" but don't brand it as such. There's an easy way they could do it:
They could get hold of the Breakfast titles and re-edit them. All they would have to do is change the end so that the word "European" was added and "BBC NEWS" changed to "BBC WORLD".
A bit of variety...

Perhaps it is because they don't want to brand the programmes as "European Breakfast" as a whole, because the editions go out to viewers across Asia as well, where it is not breakfast! For all we know, the promos for the European Breakfast might only go out to Europe?

You're probably right - there are extra trailers in Europe after all, and the European Breakfast ones only carry the CET time, not the usual "At these times on BBC WORLD" ending.
Mind you the need to address a world audience doesn't stop CNBC branding its programmes for their time slots - Morning Call goes out here at 3pm when it is definitely the afternoon! (They could have called it US Market Watch, but I suppose no one at CNBC Europe/Asia talks to CNBC US). And who has their Power Lunch at 5pm (or 4am for Asia people, though for some reason we don't see that in Europe).
