TV have really missed the laid back attitude of Adrian Chiles

Said nobody ever.

Of course Pougatch is competent and business like and some may say dull, but that's what people, particularly tweeters who seem to control British TV thesedays, want.

Both channels ran their full credits tonight, although the beeb's went a tad too fast, in the usual 'major event style' that both use thesedays.

He just said it and I'm saying it now.

Gary's broadcasting pedigree seems to have risen with Leicesters fortuens over the last year or so and he is finally out of the long lingering shadow of Des Lynam

I would disagree there, Gary stepped out of Des's shadow about 10 years ago. It was so long ago Des presented I can barely remember what his presenting was like. I doubt anyone watching the World Cup 2014 debated Gary's presenting abilities based on a benchmark of Des.

Regarding Chiles, whereas I agree his style was interesting and was offering something different, when you've got so many people disliking him every single time he hosted a match, he had to go. Many people still go on about him now on Twitter every time ITV shows a game.

Apart from that the BBC pretty much had it covered, although their Welsh contingent was nothing to shout about. The most interesting thing about Dean Holdsworth was his parking fine.

Dean Saunders.

Say what you like about Savage - he's entertaining and honest and brutal and not afraid. His credibility is a little lacking, but he's just a football critic, viewer and fan like all of us. I thought he was good.

Hartson did well in the studio segments too. No complaints there.

Bellamy OK on ITV, especially the Wussia game.

Which in reality shows what a mistake it was to let him go.

IMO football fans don't seem to be happy with anyone who presents TV if you're just going off Twitter

I wished ITV used John Dykes he's a seriously good presenter, he's too good that Mark Pougatch is nothing but an assistant presenter on Premier League TV

In Portugal the match was on RTP1 as expected what surprised me though was it went out on a pay channel too SPORT TV Shocked

I haven't seen the ITV closing montage yet, but I didn't think the BBC's was one of their finest, tbh. The World Cup 2014 was a masterpiece in the genre and I have a real soft spot for the Euro 2008 one, too (the last time that a major BBC Sport production used a horizontal credits scroller, fact-fans, the credit-slate style came in immediately afterwards), but I didn't really 'get' last night's. It was just a bit bland, I felt and it moved too quickly, as already mentioned.

That does seem to be the flaw with that style of credit sequence - if it's cut to music, some slates with a lot of names are on screen for just a couple of bars - and for some of the people*, it's their only chance of an on-air credit, so a shame to rush past them!

* not that I'm bitter or anything.

I did wonder when the big events credit style came in, presumably the 2008 Olympics?

After old style slow credit rollers went out of fashion there was a period before this when both BBC and ITV used to just run the credits scrolling from right to left at a hundred miles an hour.

Wimbledon 2008, it was. This is the first montage that used the slate style:

*Nor me (who didn't get close at London 2012!) Wink
