I guess then for the next four nights the BBC and ITV will be having to find another studio each for their matches on BBC3 and ITV4.

In the World Cup, the BBC had Manish presenting from the grounds and sometimes from Balcony near the BBC studio at this stage (IIRC) .

Well ITV4 began tonight by taking ITV1's coverage, then switching to the match for kick-off. Not sure what they'll do at half-time / full-time then as I doubt both games will break at exactly the same time and it'll be strange if one game is being analysed if you've been watching another.

Just have the commentators talk and show highlights of the other game on ITV4 at half-time?

I guess the BBC could use the main HD studio and gallery in Vienna for the main match, which will be simulcast in HD on BBC HD, and then use an on-site presenter and pundits in-vision (either pitch side or from a small studio on-site) working into one of the two SD sports galleries at TV Centre to provide the SD-only coverage for the other network? You'd need a gallery and graphics/ VT operation even if you don't have a studio, if you want to provide any analysis and chat during half-time.

Then again - the BBC may have two galleries in Vienna, which would presumably make some aspects of this easier.

The quarter finals have been pre determined, but the semi-finals haven't, though that's just a case of channels playing out an alternative schedule on Wednesday or Thursday.

I would assume ITV will have first pick of the semi-finals considering they've opted out of the final. It'll be interesting to see as well what ITV schedule against the final - whether they go for Corrie and the big shows, or whether they just concede and put a movie or something on.

Looking in next week's tv listings, it seems only Thursday and Friday's Quarter finals are known in advance, Saturday and Sunday's along with the 2 Semi-finals are still to be decided who will show them (which is odd as Thur/Fri's schedule would have needed to be confirmed a week earlier than Sat/Sun)

Sat/Sun's schedules are quite messy but with the semis on Wed/Thur it's just a case of one non-football schedule that will air on one or the other day (Corrie and EastEnders are both billed Wed and Thur at 7.30, but only one each will actually air)

The reason I guess Saturday and Sundays have been left undecided is because they should have been featuring France and Italy, two of the bigger draws ratings wise. However, now there is a good chance that both will be knocked out tonight.

Well the question as to how the BBC present two simultaneous matches was answered.

Gary Lineker was in the Vienna studio on BBC One and BBC HD.

Jake Humphrey was in the London Match of the Day/Final Score studio on BBC Three - I guess this match was only presented in SD. (Pity the pre-recorded BBC Three anno suggested Jake was in Austria at the stadium, rather than in a studio in London)

Well for once BBC3 got the better studio then. The BBC Sport studio works pretty well, and I don't think there's been much advantage in having the team out in a glass box in Austria when they're just watching matches on TV anyway.

It's a shame though ITV didn't put much effort in with their London studio - would have been an ideal time to unveil a new studio - never really been a fan of their football studio, it just doesn't look quite right.

It gives the impression they are apart of the tournament, despite not really being so.

I suppose the BBC may have thought about just doing it from London with a Vienna skyline projected onto the screen, but it does make it look like they are putting in more effort.

I know what you mean about ITV, to me they've never really had a great studio for the football, though i suppose they're at a disadvantage for the fact that especially in recent years the BBC have designed their studio to be multi purpose for a whole host of sports, where as ITV majorly only use a studio for football highlights/extra matches on ITV4.

They've created a good looking sport brand, but the studio just doesn't appear to work, its always the same shape dressed slightly differently.
Though what could they do to the studio differently. I suppose it looks quite dated that's the problem rather than the layout, but it would look odd having cream/beige titles and a brightly lit coloured/white studio.

Part of me was thinking that it may have worked quite nice for them to either rig a camera or take one of the stadium shots and had that on a projection screen trying to fake that they were at the stadiums.

Don't they use the same studio as This Morning?
