Seeing the lightning going on behind them as they sit in the studio, I think most fans will understand. Quite impressive that they've managed to tee up a few replays in spite of the tech probs.
According to RTÉ, some sort of electrical storm knocked out the international feed. Apparently all of Europe went off line. RTÉ didn't have any radio commentary, they went to an apology graphic for a few seconds before just going back to the pundits in Dublin.
Oddly, every time RTÉ went off line, for a split second the BBC pictures (complete with scorebar and BBC logo) appeared before the graphic appeared. RTÉ Sport obviously have the abilitty to take the BBC feed if their own feed goes off line (or more likely, they simply relayed BBC One off air.)
In terms of our own post-match analysis, anyone wish to hazard a guess as to how ITV would have coped if they had this game?
Adverts anyone?
Presumably they could have got the clean feed like the BBC eventually did, prior to that, returned to the presenter and pundits in the studio in London ?

Doubtful, they're not that stupid. Bit of hastily cobbled-together live filler material and analysis more likely and constant reminders that they're getting the football back in some form, even if it were just a clean feed.
I'm sure this happened for a slightly shorter period in the last world cup, cant remember if they had 5 Live commentary or not, but I remember them taking a clean feed for a while.
Interestingly neither Motty or Allan Green seemed to know that we had our clean feed tonight (the viewers), when it did return.
ITV wouldn't have been able to broadcast any radio commentary would they? I suppose Steve Rider and the lads would chat in the studio before rejoining the main game. Or would they have just put up an ITV1 static slide for 5 minutes?
I seem to remember a Rugby/Football World Cup game a good 10 or more years ago on ITV where the pictures were lost for quite a while and they broadcast radio coverage of the game! Whether this was BBC radio commentary, I am not sure, but they definitely did this once 12-13 yrs ago! Anyone else remember this?
Started in the 57th minute, normal service was resumed in the 64th. 74th minute the problem happened again, pictures came back in about the 84th minute with 5 Live commentary still on going, normal service resumed in the 86th minute. I hope someone's got the full game. Anyone got any clips of the technical problems during the 2nd half? Bound to be someone who recorded the game.
