Bizarre scheduling around the Rugby International today, a full replay of the Top14 game before the International, and afterwards..... extended highlights of the very same Top14 fixture.

ESPN gain rights to FA Cup from 2010-11 Season ...

Seemed strange at first to delay the rights for a year, but I guess it makes perfect sense considering their a bit of a sweetener for the loss of half their Premier League games - though with nowhere near the pull, and also late in the season too.

I think ESPN need to get in there with some away Internationals for the autumn, assuming their not all protected for "terrestrial" TV.

Well it appears by that article it's going to be the status quo for the rest of the season, ITV having an extra FA Cup game and another one going online, although if the fixtures prove interesting I just can't see the online option being useful to The FA, I'm sure they'd want the money for it.

Good to see ESPN getting the rights, it'll give them something more for next season onwards.

more on the deal ....

From 2010-11, ESPN will televise two matches in The FA Cup First and Second Rounds (plus up to two replays per round), three matches from the Third to Fifth Rounds (plus up to one replay), two Quarter-Finals (plus up to one replay) and one Semi-Final for each of the next four seasons.

ITV will continue to broadcast one match in the First and Second Round, two matches from the Third to Fifth Rounds, two Quarter-Finals and one Semi-Final.

there's more though ...

Along with rights to The FA Cup, ESPN will also show all of the England Under-21s home fixtures.‪ Further, following the launch of the Women’s Super League in 2011, ESPN will have exclusive media rights for the new division.

ESPN buys rights to Guinness Premiership rugby matches

ESPN has picked up the rights to one of the packages of live Guinness Premiership rugby union rights following the collapse of Irish pay-TV broadcaster Setanta.

From next autumn, ESPN will air 43 live matches and exclusive coverage of the Guinness Premiership final, plus one semi-final.

Sky Sports, which currently holds the rights for live Premiership matches, will share the rights with ESPN and show 26 live Guinness Premiership games plus the other semi-final.

Bit annoyed tonight,

Fiorentina v AC Milan, was due to be shown live, however the weather forced a postponement. No explanation whatsoever was given of the change, ESPN went straight to a recording of a German Match due to be shown at 10pm tonight. I wonder what will be shown then instead.

A caption would have been useful, or a comment at the end of the EPL fixture by Stubbs would have done.

Ray stated twice about the postponement after the Arsenal match, and the as a result the game that would be televised in its place.

That'd be the American influnce then! Although RTÉ occassionally does it with George Hamilton and Ryle Nugent before games in Croke Park.
