UPN have axed Enterprise. I can't really say i am surprised, it is not as good as any of the other Star Trek franchises, probabley because the plotlines were too similar to that of previous franchises. I also think that bosses were mad to drop the name 'Star Trek' from the title. This meant that loyal viewers of 'Star Trek' may not have realised that this was part of the franchise. I hope future franchises learn from these mistakes.
I really think they should learn from Doctor Who and give the franchise a LONG rest. The problem is, is that Star Trek has been so over-milked that it's bursting as it were. It mirrors the situation of Doctor Who in the 1980s. The only thing keeping it on the air was the demand of the people, even though the actual shows were terrible and wouldn't be on TV in normal circumstances. The decisiion was made to cancel it, and give it a rest. And so when it eventually DOES come back in a few years time, people will be gagging for it. Just look at the new series of Doctor Who coming next month, it's got one of the most critically acclaimed writers, oscar winning special effects studios and A-list actors playing the parts. Could you honestly say this would of happened if the show had of been kept on in 1989? Definitely not.
So I think they should give the Star Trek franchise a goddamn rest! At least for 5 years, possibly 10. I think having nonstop Star Trek on TV and screen since 1979 has just killed it! Rodenberry must be turning in his orbiting coffin!
