When engineering work is taking place can't fillers be used for example Ceefax, N24 etc as some of the above posts suggested that they can't and we would be likely to see a testcard?

The 'Engineering tests' are tests to make check the resilance of the transmitter network - i.e. how well it holds out in a fault. You can't measure how good the picture is with a programme or Ceefax.... that's why it is called a *test*card

But this tonight is just a regular 'we've got no programmes to put on' closedown

It still seems odd that the Learning Zone is starting at 4am. This doesnt happen very often. In fact, i cant remember this happening before unless there were engineering tests on.

But why reduce programming on one night only? TV listings show normal transmission times for the BBC Learning Zone up until 1st October. Seems odd reducing programming on one particular night only.

BBC1 is running 20 minutes late. How convenient.

Looking at the effect it looked like someone, somewhere in the chain cut up a feed they were on as a source (judging by the VITC that appeared it may have been a VT machine in E-to-E) - and then cut away to another outside source that had a presentation schedule feed on it.

As a result you get a Bohemian Rhapsody style howl round - albeit with a couple of frames of delay.

That looks like the BBC World dog being screwed up behind the News 24 one. I'm guessing all those messed up graphics we see are the BBC World ones with the News 24 graphics being overlayed as normal.

EDIT: Looking at that list it definately looks like BBC World suffering from the problems, with News 24 rebroadcasting it with their own graphics on top.

For the record, Ceefax was shown this morning - it was there in all its glory at around 3.30am.

Didn't something similar happen to the Weakest Link on BBC TWO a couple of years ago, where an ARC got fed with its own output?
