Why listen to the radio when you can have Spotify? Why watch a linear channel when you've got iPlayer?
Sometimes it's nice to have a selection curated by someone else - you get to enjoy music you might not have thought of, or discover something new.

I get that. But I don’t feel like the music on these channels is “curated”, it feels like a computer is playing it on shuffle.

MTV still have a team of music programmers who create the playlists for each channel, using MusicMaster (http://www.musicmaster.com/).

Of course, sometimes they just do a search on the word 'Prince' and chuck that all in a playlist. What could go wrong? https://www.vulture.com/2016/04/mtv-fresh-prince-prince-tribute-mix-up.html
