Are they closing, or are they just being removed from BT?

Interestingly, VH1 is also closing down which is a fairly well known brand and has been around for years. Same day as the rebranding back to MTV Rocks. Although it could just be a mixup of "VH1 Christmas" but I dunno.
It is expected, as the channel has been nothing but re-runs of RuPaul's Drag Race and has no relation to it's music past.

Closing. New channel replacing it.

Newp.
Do recordings vanish from Sky+ as well when a channel closes - guess it's technically no longer part of your subscription.

Let's just hope it isn't a new recolouring of the same NCIS episodes.

VH1 has indeed gone. Been replaced by MTV Classic on Virgin after an absence of nearly a decade- a channel I've sorely missed. Never entirely understood why Virgin removed it or why it's taken so long to return. Though it was better when it was VH1 classic in my opinion.

VH1 was very much Q Magazine on the TV originally, very much the muso channel.
VH1 Classic was very common in pubs in the late 90s. It had a very broad appeal

VH1 UK was around before 1997, I remember watching it on a TV in a bar back in 1995.
All the music channels were a hell of a lot better before the early-00s anyway, they went downhill quite fast after around 2001. Especically MTV. A shame there hasn't been a music channel showing the varying sort of programmes that MTV and VH1 used to show in the 90s and early 00s, it's just been back to back videos, countdowns and themed slots for the last 15-odd years.
