Setanta have now published a statement on their Website

Quote:
As has been widely reported in various media channels, Setanta Sports management and investors are in the process of attempting to secure the future of the business.

Contrary to several reports, we have not gone into administration.

All of our channels are still broadcasting across all platforms and our subscribers can continue to enjoy our programming.

However, in the current circumstances, we have decided to temporarily suspend the acceptance of new subscriptions.

Our customer services operations are still open and available to handle customers queries, but there are a series of frequently-asked questions and answers to them available below.

We thank you for your continued interest in Setanta Sports.

If you follow the link, the statement has a series of FAQs directed at subscribers.

2. Setanta go bust - either in all three countries or just one or two (Setanta have operations in the UK, Ireland and the US)

What about Setanta Sports Canada and Setanta Sports Australia?

Is it just me or do you think with Setanta sports and ITV 2,3,4 going Freeview won't have a leg to stand on.

Latest from MG.

Plan currently seems to be to sell off Setanta Ireland and the US operation to raise the necessary funding for the remainder of the business to stay afloat.

Setanta isn't really the main attraction of Free view though. Whilst I agree the loss of ITV's digital stations would be bad news, bear in mind that there would still be strong offerings from the BBC, C4, C5, UKTV, VMTV and Sky.

Setanta and ITV are not the be all and end all of Freeview.

Good point. After thinking about it again wouldn't it be more of a blow to Top-up TV.

Of course they do - much better for them to snap up the rights at a bargain price should Setanta go bust.

If they go, it'll make room to put BBC Alba onto freeview Wink

Setanta executives were last night expressing genuine hope that the organisation had been pulled back from the brink of collapse after a "very credible" investor emerged with an 11th-hour rescue plan.

Such was the sensitivity of the potential deal that there was no mention of the name of the bidder or its line of business. But the size and boldness of the approach took even Setanta by surprise. A senior executive contacted the Guardian last night to explain that the bid had come from "the left wing".

The executive indicated that the identity of the bidder has not been revealed in previous press reports, which means that ESPN, Sky, Al-Jazeera and the Irish billionaire Dermot Desmond can be ruled out. It is understood that the new rescue plan envisages keeping the Setanta business intact, with its operations in the UK, Ireland and the US being maintained as a single corporate entity.

It's either Richard Branson, or someone like Peter Jones, some high-profile money-guy with a passion for sports.
