Yup - took a few reboots and a re-scan of my box but its there.

Hmm. This looks intriguing. Will ESPN America evolve into ESPN's UK sports channel?

PS for those who want them, here are some pieces of Setanta music

Just to let you know what's happening over here in Ireland.

Setanta Sports Holdings Limited was put into receivership on Tuesday afternoon along with several Setanta subsidaries, but not Setanta Sports Channel Ireland Limited which continues to trade "normally".

Apparently Setanta have redefined normally to mean with a much reduced line-up...

The UK based channels that were part of the Setanta package here have been closed, which means no more Sentata Golf, Setanta Sports News or the Irish version of Setanta Sports 2, nor the two Glasgow club channels. However both Setanta Ireland and the Irish version of Setanta Sports 1 are continuing to broadcast albeit with programme changes (not sure what changes yet, as I haven't really had much time to watch TV over the past few days) - I presume they are showing prerecord programming where Setanta Sports News and UFC were due to be simulcast (a lot, since its summer and Setanta don't have much live rights).

There is confusion as to whether Setanta still has its "mirror" ROI rights to its Premier League games as well as the separate 3pm Saturday package which is ROI-only. The received wisdom (and message from Setanta) is that they do, but there is some suggestion that these are tied somewhat to the UK rights and this seems to be something which is unclear at present. They have lost the UFC rights and I'm not sure what the SPL situation is.

Setanta's reciever, David Carson of Deloitte and Touche, is now trying to sell Setanta Sports Channel Ireland Limited and the North American/Australian operations. Media reports are that there are two approaches, one from Denis Desmond of MCD, and the other from Liberty Global Europe which owns Chorus NTL (UPC Ireland), the largest cable and only MMDS company in the Republic. O'Rourke and Ryan apparently are trying to put together a bid for the North American/Australian operations and revert them to something like the pre-2004 Setanta, selling to pubs and clubs internationally.

Another point to note is that Setanta is continuing to broadcast in Northern Ireland where it holds certain rights to sports that it did not have for the rest of the UK. If Setanta Ireland survives, this could potentially lead to the unfortunate situation of NI fans having to subscribe to say, Sky and ESPN for football and Setanta or its successor for rugby.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this but on Freeview 34 there is a message telling you "Setanta is no longer broadcasting on this channel for more info go to www.setantainfo.com". The channel must be no longer scrambled to non card holders.

Considering that redirects to https://www.topuptv.com/espn/ it looks certain ESPN will replace Setanta full time on Freeview then.

Do we know how much Freeview accounted for it's 1.2m subscribers?

Thanks for that rdd. I suppose then that Setanta Ireland's Formula one coverage is business as usual then. I wonder if RTÉ would take it back if Setanta Ireland were to collapse. It would be nice to reunite Peter Collins with David Kennedy again.

Feeling a little bit emotional tonight (the few ales haven't helped) - remembering the excitement when I first got Setanta on DTT back in '07 (it was my first foray into pay-TV outside of a few months of TopUpTV back in '04) and the enjoyment it used to bring to my grandad when I took the DTT box round his house on a Saturday afternoon. As a staunch anti-Murdochite I loved the feeling of sticking one up at the old Digger. Also remembering their excellent FA Cup Final day and watching the last few minutes of SSN on that YouTube clip really brought home what they were trying to do - really feeling for all the people whose efforts have suddenly fizzled out. It's a shame that SSN couldn't be brought back in some capacity. Like all things, you don't appreciate it till it's gone. The suddenness of its demise hasn't helped either - only this afternoon I saw it playing on a pub screen as I walked past.

But I think one of the things I'll miss most about Setanta is it's awesome musical package.

Enjoy it one last time.

Raise a glass tonight to, what feels like, a lost friend.

I'm trawling through the archives now, glass of fine single malt in hand, and I must admit, I'll miss Setanta. They brought a foray of sport that wouldn't have been shown otherwise, and I loved their FA Cup Final coverage.

Was gutted when TUTV accidentally cancelled my sub just before I went away on holidays at the end of May (long story), and decided to wait until I got back 2 weeks later. Whilst in Tenerife I read in the press that Setanta were really in the sh*t and by the time I got back to the UK they'd stopped selling Setanta 1 via TUTV. Then they started taking them again but work commitments at the time made it pointless. However, if I'd have known, I'd have re-subbed, even for the last month on-air, just to get some video to archive, and to watch the last afternoon on-air.

I gave Sky up in 2005, never to return, however the in-laws have it on downstairs, and I still tune in to Setanta Ireland freeviews when they are on. More for nostalgia really, as what they are showing is sh*te right now LOL!

*Raises a glass to Setanta* - and to all the staff at Setanta GB....

Well done lads, you gave it your best shot. However you must remember those di*kwads at Isleworth will always crush competition and you won't be the last casualty. They'll try crushing ESPN Europe next! Mad

.... and this is someone who used to be one of the biggest Sky fanboys 10 years ago!!!! Wink

Setanta had some great opening titles particularly for England matches and FA Cup matches, at least they made an effort with their titles, this can't be said about Sky Sports, they haven't even bothered updating their Premier League titles in three years.

I too am sorry to see Setanta go. I subscribed via DTT for the Bundesliga originally, then my favourite German team 1 FC Nuremberg got relegated at the end of the 2007-2008 season. I don't have or want Sky. My other team, Stoke then got promotion to the Premier League so, a chance of a live match. My dad also liked to watch the Man United live matches instead of the Match Of The Day highlights.
Then after a season in Bundesliga 2. 1FC Nuremberg got promotion back to the promised land a.k.a the Bundesliga and now I can't watch them.

Setanta also showed some cracking Blue Square Premier games.

Sorry, but I'm not impressed with the ESPN offering.

RIP Setanta.

Bye for now.

To update further, the Sunday Business Post yesterday reported that Setanta Ireland has indeed lost the Irish rights to the Premier League. This isn't reflected on the Setanta website which is still saying it has the rights to the Premier League (then again, the Setanta website says a lot of things, including references to channels that have already closed down).

Meanwhile there are reports that Sky is attempting to hit Setanta Ireland with bills owed by Setanta GB's for carriage fees. If this were to be succesful Setanta Ireland will almost certainly go into recievership as it cannot afford to pay. The channel will probably end up going from Sky in any case though as long as it continues on Chorus NTL (where they are paying Setanta!) it will still have access to about 500,000 homes which will give it a good advertising base.

Chorus NTL (now UPC) have 500000 as an install base Are you sure because they might be quoting all their customer base (where you can get their broadband, phone and tv separately). If they do have 500000 digital tv installations, I
shall eat my proverbial hat.

Ah, but Setanta Ireland is not just on digital, its on analogue too! On the basic package which practically every UPC customer has. You're right, they have nowhere near 500,000 digital installations, according to the below article the number is about 320,000 between cable and MMDS.
