When did they stop live trans on Set Sports News? I've just watched a trailer promo of the channel and it's went to a slide now.

He means when did they go to the promo that closed broadcasts. That appeared at about 5.50pm. They handed to it with a quick goodbye.

Thanks.

It's a shame to think of all the jobs lost from Setanta.

Yep, and that should never be forgotten in these circumstances. It's slightly worrying looking at quite a few forums with a lot of people enjoying the situation, forgetting there are tons of people going home tonight without a job. Discussion over the future of the station and what happens to its rights are one thing, revelling in its demise is another.

From a Scottish perspective, a couple of things that haven't possibly been picked up, one of which presentation wise could be important. I take it STV will now have to do their own coverage of Champions League matches from Scotland, as this had been sub-contracted to Setanta. God help us if that means we're going back to the dream team of Andy Walker presenting and Archie doing the commentary. I would plead with them to consider something different - at least Peter Martin from Clyde sounds interested (to put it mildly).

Also, the upcoming Scotland international game was set to be shown on Setanta - I take it the rights go back to the SFA, and are not for the administrators to sell on. You'd think there must be an audience for this - at the very least if a buyer cannot be found they should hand it to a terrestrial broadcaster for this match only to ensure people can actually see it.

Absolutely! It's a shame for those whose jobs have been hanging in the balance over the last few weeks, only to have it taken away without warning.

It will be interesting to see what happens now with the England and FA Cup rights. I can see Sky picking up Setanta's FA Cup matches but it's the perfect opportunity to ensure all England games are FTA. Will it happen? I doubt it.

Well, it's happened before, under the previous deal the Beeb had all England home matches, competitive and friendlies. The fact it was split in the current deal may well have been because Setanta wanted the opportunity to cover a match at Wembley and it seemed fair, given all we lost terrestrially was home friendlies which, I would suggest, we can live without.

As for the away qualifiers, of course, anyone who wanted could have bought those so there was nothing to stop all the England qualifiers being FTA if anyone else had wanted them badly enough.

Anyway, all Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland home matches are on pay TV, so England get a bloody good deal. And to my mind it's an own goal for the other home nations are surely it means more people would just watch England.

That Guardian article suggests Racing UK will be a standalone channel at £20 a month. Surely that's a mistake - can't see people paying that when they had it as part of Setanta for around £12 a month.

Nope. Racing UK was £20 p/m before they joined forces with Setanta a couple of years back. If as they say they are threatening to charge the same again, that I feel is far too expensive.

I just hope ESPN come up with some ESPN UK & America channel subscription deal.
Means I can watch the baseball, without having to subscribe to a motly collection of other sports channels which I would never had watched anyway. That was partly Setanta UK's downfall.

Feeling a little bit emotional tonight (the few ales haven't helped) - remembering the excitement when I first got Setanta on DTT back in '07 (it was my first foray into pay-TV outside of a few months of TopUpTV back in '04) and the enjoyment it used to bring to my grandad when I took the DTT box round his house on a Saturday afternoon. As a staunch anti-Murdochite I loved the feeling of sticking one up at the old Digger. Also remembering their excellent FA Cup Final day and watching the last few minutes of SSN on that YouTube clip really brought home what they were trying to do - really feeling for all the people whose efforts have suddenly fizzled out. It's a shame that SSN couldn't be brought back in some capacity. Like all things, you don't appreciate it till it's gone. The suddenness of its demise hasn't helped either - only this afternoon I saw it playing on a pub screen as I walked past.

But I think one of the things I'll miss most about Setanta is it's awesome musical package.

Enjoy it one last time.

Raise a glass tonight to, what feels like, a lost friend.

Interesting move by the NRL - the Australian Rugby League. Setanta held the rights to their league and the 3 match series that is one of the biggest of the season - the State of Origin series. With match 2 of that series due to be played this morning, it's good to see that action has been taken so UK fans can watch it legally.
