I know on this occasion the announcer didn’t, but do they normally say “Now on UTV” when recording the local announcements?

I haven't watched regularly, but from what I've seen from local announcements recently, they don't seem to reference either UTV or ITV, and just say things like "Now, it's..."

If the ridiculous situation of verbally calling the channel solely "UTV" over an ident that visually says solely "ITV" has indeed ended, then I'm glad. Why it was ever the approved way of doing things in the first place remains totally inexplicable.

I think the issue for most is not even as much that he mispronounced the word but his general style of delivery. It just doesn't suit ITV in its current form. Maybe ITV 2, or CITV or MTV but certainly not ITV. He talks too fast, there's no change in his tone for any announcements, everything is blurted out as if he is addressing a bunch of kids.

Could you imagine if the next programme was a harrowing documentary about a tragic event like the Holocaust or September 11th and he comes on in his usual style to announce that documentary as coming up next in the same way he does everything else?

At this point, I'd like to hope that when he was talked to about the error in pronunciation he was also spoken to about his general style of delivery and given advice on how to improve it.

Yes, shouldn't have made it to air but presumably less staff in the process than normal at the moment.

With all due respect those continuity staff (the backend dealing with the production, ensuring pre-recorded voiceovers are delivered to playout and editorial decisions) are most likely working from home. So that's no excuse. It wouldn't have made it to air at my work as someone would be listening, especially if it was pre-recorded.

Even the best people make mistakes, but it's the repeated mistakes in a short space of time is when it becomes noticeable.

Well, indeed - if they can't guarantee they're going to be good quality, they should stop doing them until they can. There are plenty of things in television that are being done from home and with fewer staff than usual and the audience aren't noticing any difference.

So UTV Life is back...on the wide shots you can see they have put this awful cloth on the floor, partly covering up the black floor. It looks a right old mess, all creased. It's clearly covering up the wires on the floor as Pamela talks to guests on the TV screen where the guests would normally be sat.

On another note, at least Andrea announced the show correctly...bet she hasn't got a clue who Pamela is though, but at least she got her name and the programme right. Small mercies I guess.

P.s. they should still use the UTV Dog for regional programmes....dont see why not?

I expect they both get invited to the ITV 'dos' that Julian mentioned.

I'm so confused as to why they need that little screen opposite Pamela when they is a massive screen right now to her which usually only has a loop of the title card. Use that instead of the monitor on the stand

They don’t use a DOG for regional programmes on ITV Wales or Border Scotland, so don’t see why UTV should be any different.

Also, now that they’re using ITV presentation, it would be a bit confusing to have a UTV DOG, and ITV appear to be phasing out the UTV brand, so will want to use it as little as possible.

Julian or Gillian would be perfect for the role! Or even better, both of them part time!
