I believe subtitles being available on P888 is a feature of Sky boxes, not an intentional broadcast by the BBC. Not sure if the Sky+HD boxes do the same.

No, it is totally intentional. It's for the benefit of cable cos in Europe that source BBC services from D-Sat.

The DVB spec allows for it, nothing to do with Sky boxes per se

Sky boxes use WST subtitles as well though. They don't receive DVB subtitles.

BBC DSat services only introduced DVB Subtitles in addition to WST subtitles when Freesat launched. (Freesat - like Freeview - uses DVB Subs rather than WST subs)

I wonder with Ceefax now gone (R.I.P. Sad ), will we ever hear any of the music assoicated with it again?

Only if Cwilliams1976 comes back to YouTube! Shocked

Please.. Don't even joke about it!

Did those analogue transmitters which were fed from DSat towards the end lose Ceefax at that point or was some workaround put in place?

Sandy Heath and Fremont had work arounds, any other D-Sat feeds were for RBS only, and I don't think any effort was applied to retain Ceefax in that mode ?

I thought somebody said a BBC Two NI transmitter was using DSat, which is why they couldn't do a Wales-style analogue only closedown the other week.

I remember when Mr Williams first appeared on YouTube, all he did was post the first couple of tracks from various Ceefax tapes/minidiscs. Really, that was the only good thing about his account before the infamous mocks started.... (Now let's never speak of those again).

Seeing as YouTube have upped their duration limit, I would expect people to start uploading complete compilations soon. There's already a few there (Including the excellent Hazel Crest).

I'm afraid you're going to have to wait an extra day to see the new barker, schedule changes on the Sign Zone tonight mean the news channel doesn't start on BBC One until 4am, so it'll be running on Two all the way to the Learning Zone.

Yes, I saw that comment too,

It could only have been Limavady, (and/) or B. Mtn, I think both were RBL Divis, unless either of them had their Divis feed compromised by Caldbeck post DSO ? BBC A (Scotland) uses 27, the same as BBC 2 analogue Divis.

So looks like the barker is a 35-ish minute loop along the same lines of the BBC HD one. No surprises there. Also no announcement into it - straight out of BBC News into the barker, which starts with an ident which is probably the reason why. So any future "closedown" style announcements will have to be done in front of the BBC News simulcast.

Oh, and they jumped out of BBC News just as they were showing Newswatch's item on the Ceefax closure, so the final words before the first barker were "it's farewell to Ceefax" Smile

I hate how they crash into and out of the BBC News simulcasts mid-item or even mid-programme. They should aim for the half-hourly junctions.

Exactly.

Its bad enough with the scheduling of the BBC ONE simulcasts.

Eg, Nc starts at 00, but BBC ONE simulcasts at 05!

Does that really matter ? What happens when you normally change channel on your TV !

Or, if the news channel isn't on before it, over the closing credits of the last programme... Smile
