Noticed there was a little countdown in the top right for the last ten minutes (where the second EPG entry came from I guess).
I notice also it was the "Ceefax 1" generator - presumably unseen for a very long time indeed!
All in all a lovely way to go out - kudos to whoever put in the effort to make that happen.

There was? No sign of it on DSat. Perhaps it was placed at the edge of the 16:9 frame, and therefore only visible on DTT and with a receiver that ignores AFDs.

It changed from Ceefax 2 to Ceefax 1 at 05:20 - the number referring to the channel (BBC1/BBC2) from which the Ceefax data came of course.
More interesting was that, later in the broadcast (05:47 onwards), someone was attempting to key in different page numbers, but it never 'went through'. I guess they lost the user manual...

Quick question - does anyone know when it started being billed as 'Pages from Ceefax' as opposed to Ceefax in Vision' - on the Ceefax listings themselves.

That was deliberate - it made up the "countdown": 010, 005, 003, 001, 000

Sorry, meant to say "top left" - it was the differing page numbers you mention (as pointed out by another poster above me). Started at P010 at 0548 and changed roughly every two minutes until at P000 it cross-faded to the farewell caption.

Ahh... I wondered why the page numbers all started with zero - assumed an incorrect 'enter' command was being wrongly interpreted as zero!
So they actually went to the trouble of keying in numbers, but didn't bother to showcase any extra pages via manual entry - just improvised a lame countdown clock instead!

Considering they pretty much only did it for the benefit of geeks like ourselves, I'd say their effort was top notch.

It's actually a different unit from the one I thought - we do have a different (older) 3U decoder elsewhere in the department, but this is the one that has been used on air for the past few years.

and the remote control:

You select the channel that feeds it by plugging the red double-ender into the NET1 or NET2 distribution.

I guess we can unplug it now!

Perhaps Ceefax is based on the Mayan Calendar. Wink

Excellent! Thanks v. much for that Smile

The 'analogue I/P' screen looks blank? (assuming the faint image is a reflection)
