According to wikipedia, 1991 is the last series that the "K" introduced each round, what did they replace the K with?

Was the series after the awful 'grungy', futuristic revamp with Penny Smith co-hosting, or did that come a few years later? I'd be interested to see that again, purely for curiosity and to remind myself how terribe it was.

Incidentally, I'm so excited that Teachers is coming to FTN. I only got into it during the last few series and have been desperate to catch the early ones as everyone tells me they were better. The PVR is already set for a week on Thursday. Very Happy

The series you're explaining is the 1995 series. Krypton ran straight through to 1993, there was no series in 1994 and then the last run in 1995 with Penny Smith as co-presenter.

What I remember most from the '95 series was the utterly bizarre CGI animations that replaced the observation round. They probably thought it was very cutting edge and futuristic but it just looked embarrassing, as I remember it.

I hope FTN show the 1995 series of Krypton, i didn't see that one. There's a trail for the 1993 series on youtube.

The round introductions between 1992 and 1993 used the same music as before except the animations involved the red dot of the "k" logo exapanding and showing images related to the round it was introducing.

Between 1986 and 1990 they used to make minor changes to the opening theme each series!

I wouldn't mind seeing the 1995 series again just to see how bad it was, as it's never been repeated. As I've said Challenge have never been past 1992.

But saying that Challenge didn't show any series pre-1989 where as Ftn started from the 1987 series, so hopefully we might see it.

I saw recently that Ftn have started using "Coming Soon" trailers now. Wonders will never cease.

So far, I've seen Teachers (presumably as in late night Channel 4 couple of years back) is coming soon to Ftn and some other programme I cannot remember the name of (it looks like some sort of lifestyle programme that Living might air, I think it might have been "The Warehouse" or something) is also coming soon, presumably in May.

Found out what the other programme is, its called "Nothing To Declare", its an Australian programme and its been aired before on Living2.

Which show? Takeshi or Gladiators?
Takeshi's always been badly edited.

Gladiators series 2 seems to have an abrupt jump into the Eliminator and an odd jump after the sixth event into the break. Was there a viewers competition there originally that Flextech just chopped out in their usual half-assed fashion?

Gladiators

Semi Final 2

The credits had to roll across the bottom of the screen while Ulrika was chatting to the loser of the Eliminator, then literally as soon as his lips stopped moving they cut to the LWT endcap!

Obviously the show ran over a bit due to one contestant dropping out and being replaced due to illness halfway through the show and one contestant having to have medical after 'Hang Tough'! Laughing

I think the missing bit is more likely to be a contestant appeal than a competition, I have a handful of original shows downloaded from UKNova that feature the same promo each time.

Its called tough choices. Anyway its not the only episode of the entire run that's had to be terminated abruptly for reasons of time - it would appear that the show's been edited in a fashion that's neat and tidy, but throws it all out when you have to include footage of somebody being carted off on a stretcher and fit everything else in, therefore the normal credit sequence (which, by modern standards, is painfully long) is usually the first thing to go.

As for the other post - contestant appeal is another possibility, or a viewer competition or some sort of interactivity that obviously now no longer applies. Are these appeals and things put on the original masters then? It just seems fruitless to put something like a contestant appeal on the master - surely it makes more sense to either add an insert during playout or a one-off dub for the original airing while the appeal is active.
